from the first day in the hospital my daughter would only fall asleep with me holding her on my chest on her stomache. i was so tired but it seemed like every time i got her to sleep the nurse would come in and wake us up and make me put her in the crib on her back. she would cry and cry until i would finally pick her up and lay her on my chest again then she would fall asleep but it would never fail, here comes the nurse again. i hated it so much, i wanted her to just leave us alone! after we got home i was able to work with her to get her to sleep on her side and then she also started sleeping in her car seat. my mom flipped about that so i asked the doc to be sure it was ok and she said yes, it is actually more comfortable because they are not flat on their backs.

When my son was born, he only liked his tummy too. However, I did not want to take the risk, so I only put him on his tummy for naps during the day when I was right there to check on him. My son grew out of it and then started sleeping in his swing. Another bad habit, I know, but at least I wasn't worried about the tummy thing or spitting up (he had acid reflux). Now he is 5 months old and HATES his tummy! It will change! I would follow the advice previously. Let him go to sleep, then turn him over. No extra blankets, etc. in the crib. Just keep him swaddled or put him in a sleeper sack!

No it is not safe for him to sleep on his tummy overnight. It has been proven in studies that babies that sleep on their tummies are more likely to die from SIDS. There are other ways of getting baby to sleep. Make sure baby is full and clean before putting him to bed. But also know that it is completely normal for a baby that age to wake that often to be fed.

Please do not put your baby on his tummy. The risk of SIDS increases when you do that. He will get used to his back. My daughter is two months as well. She has a hard time sleeping on her back, we use the vibrating chair due to scid refulx. She sleeps 4-6 hours in that. She wakes up 3 or 4 times a night to feed. They will do this for awhile. My dr said not to expect my baby to sleep through the night til 4 months but they will still occasionally wake up through the night. Put the baby on his back to sleep. It will get better. Try and get some people to help as well. My mom is a life saver. I do know the lack of sleep is unbearable, but you will have peace of mind knowing he is safer in his back. Good luck and congrats!!!!!

My daughter would only sleep on her stomach when she was an infant. I just took everything out of her crib. All she had was a sheet and matters, until she started moving around then I added the breathable bumpers. The recommendation is to put your baby on its back but it doesn't work for everyone, just be safe if you choose the stomach.

I wouldn't put him on his tummy until he is able to take control of rolling over and maneuvering his body himself. Try letting him fall asleep on your chest and then once he is sound asleep, place him on his back... and immediately put a warm blanket over him, keep your hand cupped around his face and then when he seems still asleep, remove yourself. This works well for my son.
Make sure you swaddle him at night also. Best wishes to you.

Absolutely not. NEVER put a baby to bed on their tummy until they are old enough to roll over on their own. Burp him really well before you put him to bed, and if necessary, roll up a recieving blanket to put behind him at his back so he'll be lying on his side, but tilted more towards the back.

its not safe and it was said that that was one of the reasons of cot death but i think that if the baby chooses to sleep like this then let the baby sleep like that as that is how it feels comfortable in my opinion but if its in the habit of sleeping on its tummy it may be hard to change this.

I think it depends. My son is almost 8 weeks old and he sleeps best on his tummy too. At first I was really paranoid about it, but the more we saw he was ok with it, the more comfortable we got. He doesn't sleep longer than 4 or 5 hours and he lifts his head VERY well. He is never face down when he sleeps. He picks his head up and turns it and sets it down. We don't put pillows or heavy stuff that he can smoosh his face into. ;) Both my husbands' and my mothers put us on our tummies in the mid 80's because that's what they said to do. They always change their minds. ;) It's really up to what you feel comfortable with. Don't let everyone scare you. ;) Good luck!
