There won't be another World War, the only reason why there were other World Wars in the beginning is due to the fact of how Alliances work. Once one nation declares war on another nation, that said nations' allies automatically have to declare war as well. so in a way it creates a domino effect.
Thats why America has not and probably won't ever declare an actual "war" for a long long time, instead we found a way around that and call them "conflicts". good stuff eh?

A world war on the scale of WWII would likely last only about 6 hours. In that time, 2 to 3 billion people would be incinerated. Within 2 years afterward, another billion people would die from radiation and starvation. A large portion of the planet would be uninhabitable for 50 years or longer.

Some say the cold war was WWIII and the war on radical Islam is WWIV...
Norman Podhoretz - The Case for WWIV
This is a look at one of the most important books of our time, which raises perhaps the most important question of our time: "The question of whether the Americans of this generation will turn out to be as willing and as able to bear the burden of World War IV as their forebears were in World War II and again in World War III."
There is another striking difference between this war and the first two World Wars: This war will certainly go on for three or four decades, and is thus comparable to World War III (the Cold War) which lasted 42 years. There is another striking difference in the area of morale. Before our entry into World War II there was plenty of anti-war sentiment among pacifists and isolationists, but that sentiment virtually disappeared after Pearl Harbor.
In sharp contrast, during World War III, we saw great rounds of defeatism from the left, thinking we were too aggressive, and from the right, thinking we were not aggressive enough. There were major disputes over how the war should be fought, questioning not only the military issues but also the political and ideological issues. Some of the same defeatism pervades World War IV, but it is more powerful than at anytime in the past.

Radical Islamists, Podhoretz argues, are descended from the major totalitarian movements of the 20th century — Hitlerian Nazism, Mussolini fascism, and Stalinist communism — the last of which we battled through WWIII. The U.S. is now fighting to preserve its freedom and liberty against the latest “ism.” In doing so, Podhoretz firmly believes that the United States has answered “history’s call,” and that we must not swerve.

Fighting for the good of the world:
The USA, Canada, France, Turkey, Germany, Australia and Great Britiain,MExico, and Russia..
Fighting for power:
China, Austria, Koreas, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Cuba, and the above not mentioned. I hope there's no world war three. It'd end in nuclear winter.

Why not focus on HOW to avoid it?
Ahmadinejad is in trouble (with Khameini and Larijari and a significative part of iranian); ONU could help.
Lebanese, turks, egyptians, are not likely to engaged against occidental forces. Russia, Asian countries are not war-orientated.
Palestine: at the brink of creating a nation.

Well, if it's a World War, I'm going to guess that the whole world will be in on it and it will be the good guys versus the bad guys.

The United States is broke, so I doubt we'll be involved, unless somebody gives us cab fare.

Like the other person said above, it won't be that easy. We can't even distinguish the enemy from the allies (a lot like 'Nam).
