I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant, I just used the bathroom and when I wiped, there was some blood. I wiped again and sure enough it's still there. Is this common? I have not had any sexual intercourse lately, so I know it's because of that. Two days ago, I had the same thing happen. But there wasn't as much blood so I figured it was nothing. But today there was more blood then before. There is no blood on my underwear, only when I wipe. I'm kind of worried, but I don't know if it's such a big deal that I should go to the doctors right now. My next OB appointment is not until another 2 weeks. I do have an ultrasound coming up next week though. Should I wait it out and go ask next week?

I assume you mean wiping your rear and not from urinating.

Sounds like bleeding hemorrhoids. If there is no blood in your underwear or a lot of blood in the toilet, don't worry about it. The pregnancy can cause hemorrhoids.

If it gets worse or doesn't stop, you you go right to a Doctor.

Believe it or not, bleeding a little during pregnancy can be normal.

However, if you have heavy bleeding, cramps, headache/backache, nausea, and the feeling of pressure in your groin area, it would be an indication of a miscarriage. At 18 weeks, if you were going to have a nmiscarriage, you would know it. I know that sounds rude, but its true. Dont listen to the other girls that say you are having a miscarriage.

Have you had a pelvic exam done in the last week?

Also, simply walking alot or being on your feet alot can cause spotting. Your cervix is covered with hundred of little blood vessels that become dilated during pregnancy. They can easily become irritated and bleed a little.

Another sign could be a yeast infection. In this case, go ahead and call your doctor. A yeast infection can spread to the amniotic fluid around your baby if left untreated.

Be calm, think happy thoughs, and be realistics. Good luck

No, it is not normal at 18 weeks. Maybe in the very beginning of your pregnancy, but not at 18 weeks. You need to CALL YOUR OB NOW, if you do not have a private OB with a 24 hour answering service, you need to GO TO YOUR LOCAL EMERGENCY ROOM OR URGENT CARE like 5 mins ago. I'm not trying to scare you, but the longer you take getting there, the more damage may or may not be happening. Don't let anyone tell you to stay home, it's OK, or it'll be OK. You can never be too sure. GO ASAP. Good luck

The most obvious answer, especially when you get pregnant, is piles.
It could also be an abrasion near your cervix, which bleeds when aggravated - this is no problem really, but you may need it cauterised after the baby is born.
To be honest, even though it will probably be a minor problem, get in touch with your doctor or midwife as any bleeding during pregnancy should be checked out.
Take care and rest as much as you can until you know for sure what it is.

You should call your doctor ASAP, it may not be anything, but he will ask you questions and based on your answers he will tell you whether or not you need to come in. Are you having any other symptoms such as pain, discharge other than blood? Do a walk-in. Get well soon and Congrats on your pregnancy and new baby!

I suggest you call your ob-gyn at least and speak to a nurse there. The doctor should decide if this needs more investigation. It is not a big gush of blood, so it is probably not an emergency, but in pregnancy I would be very careful.

Better safe than sorry. Especially if the blood has increased in volume since you started noticing it a couple days ago. You need to at least call and ask your doctor. They could suggest you come in for your ultrasound early. Ususally, light bleeding is nothing to worry about, but in this case, you didn't say really if it was light, or..so I suggest you at least call.

Dear Sister, please review these articles, which indicate light bleeding in the first trimester is nothing to worry about. I am not a physician, therefore after reviewing these articles decide whether you should go see your physician:

www.epigee.org/pregnancy/bleeding.html
www.emedicinehealth.com/pregnancy_bleeding/article_em.htm
www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/PR/00087.html

You will find additional articles if you do a search on google under subject:" Blood during pregnancy".

I hope this helps. May you have a nice and healthy baby. Amen.

Definitely call your doctor now. Any bleeding deserves to be checked out by an OB. Best of luck.
