Yes, it is the best buy. It is small enough but big enough to carry around and do things in and outside of the house. Cost much less and has enough memory for homework and such.
That's how the name came about, it's mostly used for school work and it does a most wonderful job at it. You "could" use Internet, mail and such on a notebook but be aware: You'll notice yourself spending more and more and adding to it what you need to have for a good experience with it... Not worth it. Buy a laptop and spend what you would if you had a notebook.
Now, if you need it to work on it all of the time and want to use it with the Internet, mail, games, etc, you may need a laptop. Laptops have much more memory, and no matter how much you save into it it's a great deal but, much-more-expensive... worth it though... I have one and loooove it..!

-(If you do not need to move around with it, here's an awesome advise and something a seller "will never" tell you: Buy a desktop. Many upon many awesome and first quality desktops are not that expensive because of the notebook/laptop craze going on... Then, if you move around, just buy an unexpensive "Flush-Card" and save in it what you need and plug it into another computer at work or school for example...)-

That entirely depends on how you are planning on using it. If you are specifically buying a notebook (laptop) for a home machine... no... it is not the better buy. A desktop can be upgraded. By this I mean you can add a new graphics card, and various other upgrades or additions to the system through your expansion ports. Whereas a laptop.... you can typically add more hard drive space and additional motherboard memory. Laptops tend to be more expensive for the same speed computer and overall...due to heating problems and the fact they are pretty fragile.... they don't last as long.

The advantage.... the are something you can take to various locations and use.

Good luck,
Z

YES if mobility is your top consideration. Otherwise the desktop should be fine. It would less likely give you Carpal Tunnel syndrome and neck pains from looking down on laptop screen.
