It seems to me almost everyone I meet is obsessed with money, and the desire to have more of it. At work, there are people who actually start at 3am and work to 8pm, we are only supposed to do 8 hrs a day, they end up working something like 70 hours a week, they are hungry for money.
I rarely do overtime, off course working in a place that has people who do 70 hours a week you soon get tared with the lazy brush, but its nothing to do with being lazy, I am happy and content with what I have in life,I don't need more money, as long as you have a roof over your head and food what more do you need? People make the wrong association in linking Money=Happiness when it doesn't, people usually say then "Well you must be loaded if money doesn't bother you" I'm far from it, I'm not on min wage but I'm not earing alot more, I've been on benefits and also happy.
Have I got the wrong attitude regarding money? Or should I be hungry for it?

Those people working super hard may be doing so because they are deep in debt. They have a house payment, car payment, furniture store payment, clothing store payment, credit card payment, and so on and so forth. They need to make the money because they have gotten into debt. There are some people who get deep into debt and keep piling on more because they don't want anyone to see that they are in debt. They keep buying the new cars and gadgets to maintain the appearance that they are successful.
Your attitude is a pretty healthy one. I would suggest you keep your debt to a minimum and try to save up as much money as you can. That will put you miles ahead of these other guys and you won't have to really do anything extra. In 10 years, they will still be drowning in debt while you will have quite a few thousand put away.

There is nothing "wrong". The problem is the focus isn't right. When one writes with the intention and focus on the creative process the money will come. If the only focus is money than why write? There are many things that can be done that don't require the deep soul searching and constant search for meaning that quality writing does. The money is the result and not the cause. The writing is the cause. In focusing your intention on the result and not the cause of that result you would be working backwards. You will also likely not realize over time that there is no growth happenning. It is like putting all your energy to enjoying the fruit of an orchard but none to the planting and nuturing of the trees that comprise the orchard. Eventually there will be no more fruit. No more fruit and a vanishing orchard that took years of cultivation before any fruit was present. You will cut corners and you will sell yourself out as the realization that the fruit (money is drying up) That slippery slope could leave you with a career and reputation that are in ashes while many talented writers up and coming with the right focus will end up with all your market share. You may never recover in the worst sense or be relugated to poor money for jobs no one wants including yourself. Maybe it is just me but I am of the opinion that if your writing for the money you may not be a writer at all. Only a writer would understand this. If you are aware of the risks and the actual work that is involved in becoming a talented writer you wouldn't even consider getting into this line of work for the money. There are many many many talented writers who don't even get recognized. Most writers worth there salt wouldn't even care if they found fame or fortune other than that it allows them to continue doing what they love and find a wider audience for their creations. Writing for the money almost seems like an oxymoron. The fact that you are even posing this question should be enough for you realize that perhaps writing is not the path for you. Good Luck.

Some people work overtime because they have started to live beyond thier means and need the OT to keep up with thier current lifestyle. I would work overtime if allowed but not that much, I dont need the OT as far a living expenses are concerned.

I hate to work more than a couple of hours overtime. Like you I can make it pretty good on just 40 hours a week. If I worked more I could have more material goods but I would rather relax after a normal day.

If you're well fed, why should you be hungry?
If more people were like you (or admitted that they were like you, deep down) there would be less competition for the same jobs. There would be more jobs available because they would need more people to do them. There wouldn't be just a few overachieving, stressed-out maniacs trying to do everything and be everything to everybody. People would be more relaxed and enjoy life more. There would be more peace.
The only people who should be stressed at work are paramedics, firefighters, and police officers, who should, by the way, be paid 8 times what they're getting now.

I think you've got it just right - I'm the same way and people say the same things about me.
They never understand why I'm never "concerned" or "worried" about my finances. I have plenty - I'm not materialistic or a raging consumer.
Some people think the goal in life is money - I don't, and I think it's fine that you don't, either.
Hunger for love, thirst for knowledge - but keep money in the toolbox where it belongs.

Some people are materialistic and some people are spiritual. It seems like you are a spiritual type.
You probebly love the outdoors, enjoy art and music and love to be with people and enjoy their company.
I can bet that those people are rather unhappy and very in debt.

Not at all. I have that attitude as well. It means you can see beyond the mundane. Money-well you do need it to support yourself and live, but you don't need all that much! Good for you!
