I am considering a medical abortion, however I cannot use my parent's insurance because I don't want them to know. Do some clinics offer a "discount" price? How much do they usually cost? And also, what will my symptoms and pain be like afterwards? Are there serious complications? Please do not judge, I never thought I would have to come to this and it has been a hard and straining process to decide.

I'm sorry you have reached this point and it sounds like you are really going through a difficult time. Email me if you want to chat at any time.

As to your question, I know that abortions usually cost a couple of hundred dollars (i.e. $200-$400). It depends on where you live, but that is an average.

No abortion is 100% safe. There are complications like bleeding and pain, and most women find the procedure uncomfortable. Studies have also shown that many women suffer "non physical" symptoms like anxiety, depression and nightmares after abortions. This has been medically documented.

Remember that no matter what happens to you during or after the abortion, for the baby the result will always be the same - a painful death.

These are facts, not my opinion. And since you didn't say we couldn't pray....I just want you to know I will be doing at least that for you and your unborn child.

There is a 5% failure rate with medical abortions. It does sound like it worked. If you a soaking through a pad (regular pad filled front to back, side to side) in an hour call the clinic. You are going to bleed for a while, but it should start to get lighter. You may also have some cramping so take some motrin. If by chance all of the tissue hasn't passed, rather than have the surgical procedure you can try taking the misoprostol again (they are the smaller pills that you most likely inserted vaginally). I know that it is a hard decision to make. Don't worry about defending yourself. There are people who are always going to disagree with you and they are allowed, but you know that you made the best decision for you and your family.

Contact your local Planned Parenthood - and ignore the liars who say bad things about them. Also, I'd ignore the "feminists for life" thing. Feminism and Anti-Choice are not compatible mindsets.

It will cost a few hundred dollars, but some places use sliding scales based on your income. It is a medical procedure, so there is always a risk of complications - but they are the exception to the norm. Ignore people trying to scare you by saying you could bleed to death, that you can't have babies after one. I lost several pints of blood having a wisdom tooth extracted yet I would never try to scare someone from having a tooth pulled.

Finally, the mental issues people bring up? Studies have shown that about 20% of people show signs of depression after an abortion, and only a small percentage of that have any lasting thoughts/problems. If you're sure of what you want to do, you should be fine.

Price typically depends on how far along one is in the pregnancy and type of anesthetics used. Two to three hundred dollars is a range I have seen, with prices rising later in term and with more anesthetics. Very early, one may take a set of pills to cause a miscarriage. Later one will have a surgical procedure where the doctor basically vacuums out that which is in your uterus.Afterwards, there will be some cramping and bleeding a bit heavier then a period is. You may feel a bit sick to your stomach. There will be soreness in your personal area. You will be expected to go in for a follow up to determine if they have gotten everything out of you, and if there is infection. Emotionally, there are many so ways one might feel afterward I cannot explain them all, running from relief to deep depression. For the most part, if you see a reputable doctor there will be a small chance of complications as with any surgical procedure. These will be explained to you in a detailed recording at the time you make an appointment. This recording will scare you. It is intended to. It is to ensure that you are making a well planned decision. It will also give you the facts as to the complications possible to enable you to make the best decision for you. I hope this has helped you, take care and best of luck.

ive never had an abortion, but had looked into when i was pregnant with my son (i was 17 yrs old at the time, and was exporing my options. i had my son, and im happy i made that decision). I dont look down on people who do, but I do know some info about it.

You can go down to the state office, and since your pregnant, they can give your insurance through the state. I did this when i was pregnant with my son. Alot of clinics who perform abortions take state insurance, and this will pay for everything, and your after care. I know in my state, they dont have to tell the parents either. Its your body, and you make that decision.

As far as how it goes. From what ive read and heard, it can be somewhat painful. Depending on how far you are, there are options. if you arent that far along, they can give you a set of three different pills you take at the clinic, spaced out so many days (cant remember when tho) that causes you to miscarry. If your further than what the limitation is, then they have to go in and remove everything with a vacuum. Ive heard this can be pretty uncomfortable, but they do give you pain meds. I had a friend who had an abortion like this, and she said it was somewhat painful, and she laid around for 3 days afterwards. After that, she pretty much went back to normal, and just had a really heavy heavy period that first month.

Best wishes with whatever decision you make.

There is absolutely no "discount price" for medical abortions... And the price is more than money.
I am not anti abortion.
I had a medical abortion using RU-486.
It costs anywhere from 450-525 dollars American.

You take one pill at the clinic, and they send you home with pills to either hold in your cheeks or to insert in your vagina.

The first pill kills the pregnancy. The second pill opens your cervix to allow the fetus to come out.

When I had it done, I could not walk for two days.
Every time I stood up, I would vomit violently and immediately. You can not hide this from your parents.
I mean that. You are going to be noticeably ill.

You need someone at home to take care of you.
If your baby's daddy can do it, he needs to and it is his responsibility to help you pay for it or it is his responsibility to help you raise it.

I am being as honest as possible.
You will bleed large clots for five days to two weeks and then you will literally feel your "baby" slide out of you.

I am not dramatizing these effects, this was my exact experience.

A surgical abortion would enable you to hide it from your parents, but runs the risk of permanently damaging your reproductive organs. As it stands, if the medical abortion does not work, you will still have to get vaccum aspiration and run the risk of infection.

You can not use a medical abortion beyond eight weeks.
At all.

It was the hardest thing I've ever done and I would never do it again.

According to Planned Parenthood, you may:
feel dizzy
feel strong cramps
feel nauseous or vomit
feel temporary abdominal pain
have diarrhea
have temporary mild fever or pains

Also according to Planned Parenthood,
Possible risks include:
incomplete abortion — the embryo and other products of conception are not entirely expelled from the uterus
allergic reaction
infection
very heavy bleeding
undetected ectopic pregnancy, which can be fatal if left untreated
in rare cases death is possible from very serious complications

(there was a story about a girl dying from an abortion just recently in the UK I think)...

Having a surgical abortion also increases your chances later on of having an incompetent cervix, which can cause you to lose future babies in the second trimester (this is true of anyone has has had trauma to their cervix, including women who have had d&c because of miscarriage)

You are also at risk for very serious mental/emotional consequences - which some women don't experience right away but may experience when they have a baby later on. Some people don't believe this, but here's some proof, directly from women who have made the decision to abort: http://www.feministsforlife.com/voices/index.htm

I hope you don't go through with it. If you are in a difficult situation, a crisis pregnancy center can help you figure out what to do that doesn't cost anyone their life or innocence. I encourage you to visit www.birthright.org to see if there is one in your area that can help you.

go to a planned parenthood, if its not free it wont cost more than a few hundred dollars. btw, you can only get a medical abortion before you reach 8 weeks so you cant wait too long. otherwise you have to have a regular surgical abortion. you will probably just have a lot of bleeding and cramps like a bad period but they give you lots of drugs to easy the pain. you will probably feel weak and tired. that is why you have to have someone, even if its not a parent, go with you or they wont do the procedure. it only takes about 10-15 mins to do the actual procedure and you will be out of the office probably within an hour. just make sure you have SOMEONE with you for support.

My friend had one and I think she payed about 400$ if I am not mistaken
I think planned parenthood had something to do with it also.
Abortions I heard are painful for a day or a couple of days depending and you need to go back to your check up afterwards for your own safety.
They will give you all of the precautions when they meet with you.
