I like the idea of the car seat with base and matching stroller combo. But I realize after a little while, I will have to buy another car seat since the infant travel system combo is for babies up to 22lbs. I currently have a practically new stroller.

So I was wondering if I should get the combo or just make do with the stroller I have and buy a convertible car seat, that I can use well after the infant stage?

Pros - don't have to pull a sleeping baby out of a car seat and dump him into a cold stroller.
-tons of storage room under the stroller
-baby faces you when in the car seat in the stroller
-so easy to pop the car seat in and out of the car with the base installed and you know it is in the correct position each time
-with both sun shades up on stroller and car seat it becomes completely sheltered from light or rain

Cons - Car seat and growing baby equals very heavy!! and getting heavier!
-stroller is big and bulky and hard to use in small shops or get through non automatic doors
-the peek through window shows his feet
-stroller doesn't fit in the trunk of a compact car or in a mid size car trunk if you have anything else in there
-stroller is very heavy to be lifting in and out of a vehicle

I have one of the Graco travel systems and yes I use it since it is the only stroller I have right now. I don't know if I would pay the money for a new one but since this was given to me I make the best of it. I'm getting an umbrella stroller though soon since my boy plus the car seat is just too heavy and he likes to face forward and sit up in his big stroller, the lighter smaller stroller just makes more sense now. However, not having to wake a sleeping baby (especially when you've taken him for a car ride to get him to sleep) is worth putting up with all of the cons!

I received a travel system from my co-workers and it would have been great but I had a very difficult delivery. Travel systems strollers are very bulky, and I couldn't even push mine! They're also not very good in tiny spaces like overcrowded shops at the mall. Also, they're big and my stroller wouldn't fit into the trunk of my tiny Ford Focus. After 7 weeks of not using the stroller, I ended up giving it away to someone in need. The pros to a travel system is the one fact that you can choose not to disturb your sleeping newborn when you arrive somewhere. Simply put the car seat into the stroller and you're ready to roll!

The car seat is very useful though, because when you go shopping somewhere, you can easily clip it into a shopping cart. Also, be careful about some convertible car seats. They might not recline as much as you'd like when they're rear facing, and for newborns without much neck control, you definitely want something that will recline.

I also use a sling but because of my difficulties with delivery, I wasn't able to really enjoy using it until recently.

I have a book called "Baby Bargains." It states that the infant car seat with the base gives a baby under 20 lbs better head and neck support. They are built to better accommodate the smaller body. That is what I chose to do. I bought the Graco Snug Ride. I purchased the stroller that went with the seat but it was a separate purchase. I really like the system....My son is almost 7 months and we will be buying the convertible seat soon so it lasted as long as it states in the book....This book it wonderful....I recommend the book too!! Good Luck!!

I used a carrier, until i got a sling. Then I wondered why the hell I didnt just buy the convertable car seat in the beginning, since I NEVER carried the car seat around again.

This stroller can take a newborn at 5 pounds. And it also can accept any carrier car seat also. Ive recommended it many time on yahoo, and to many friends. Everyone who bought it has wondered why they didnt do it sooner. It does sooo much more than a regular stroller, and it does everything a travel system would.

I love the travel sys but this was my first baby and I needed both the stroller and the car seat... So, it was best for me. They will grow out of it, but thats okay, they will grow out of everything you buy!! I love it, it was so easy and convenient for our family ... But, if you say you have a stroller, then just go get a car seat. I just love how the car seat fits directly into the stroller and it makes for easy transition from car to store.. ect.

I bought the combo and used it until my son reached the max weight, then I bought another carseat that stays in the car. The combo was great though, just pop it out, and into the stroller...Worked out good for me too, because my son is now 17 months old and I am due in 3 weeks for my second son. My second will use the combo.

I have a travel system and while it is good for the car seat side of things, but as you said, when they reach a certain weight you have to buy a new one anyway, and they are not good for their backs if they spoend alot of time in them. I find mine is quite bulky too. I can fit it in the boot of my car and just fit in my stroller too.

If you do a lot of walking and shopping the combo is great. If not I would just go with the carseat. Most babies can use the carseat until around a year old, at that point you would need to buy a forward facing carseat anyhow.
Good luck.
