Amen! Schools are so worried about legal issues or offending people that there is basically no sex ed of use in schools. Parents are too embarassed or think talking about it will encourage their kids to have sex.
I read a book of interviews with women who became pregnant and were forced to give up their children during the 50s and 60s. Nearly all of them said that they honesly didn't know how they got pregnant and many of them said that even as they were in labor, they didn't know how the baby was going to come out.
We would like to think times have changed, but they haven't. Most sex ed actually comes from TV and movies where they don't address the reality of sex, diseases, pregnancy, etc.
Our culture has not moved beyond our puritanical roots enough to help our children yet!

I DO believe the responsibility lies somewhat on the shoulders of the school system, because so many parents out there don't take the responsibility themselves.
But, the schools, depending on where they lie geographically, think sexual education is a no no.
Hence, an enormous rise in teen pregnancy and ridiculous questions asked on yahoo answers.
I think the only thing we can do is educate them as much as possible ourselves... Which is a sad sad sad state of affairs.

Well, there are classes on abstinence rather than classes on sex. Or maybe these kids are scared to ask questions in class? To be honest, I have no idea. At least they have somewhere to turn though. I'll answer questions all day if it will help these kids understand life, love, and sex, even if just a little bit.

It IS shocking and what's even more shocking is that public schools are cutting out sex ed programs and funds for abstinence programs and funding CONDOMS and BIRTH CONTROL PILLS instead! grrrr and they wonder why we have massive outbreaks of gonnorhea and clamidia breaking out in MIDDLE SCHOOLS! I think every school should not only have a sex ed program but make it MANDATORY and have a rigid testing to pass and if they fail, then they keep taking it til they understand all the material taught.

Well my mom always explained to me. However, I did take sex ed in 10th grade and I graduated in 2005 it's a requirement. Only those girls asking these questions are most likely the ones skipping sex ed to mess around with there boyfriends.

I was wandering the same thing myself. I know when I was that age though, I had the common sense to know what was going to get me "knocked up" or nonetheless killed. It is not the schools total responsability to teach sex education, but I know they do touch on it a bit. Makes me wander though about this generation growing up... Are they all this stupid? Or naive a better word?

omg.. it drive me crazy!! Some of the poor girls asking these question sound so dumb and clueless. i think it varies from state to state, or maybe even school to school.
Where i live we have an amazing school system and in healthy class (required) they so talk about sex a great deal. So i was pretty well informed. but it may be very diff else where.

I don't think it's taught. Too many parents just say don't have sex til you're married, but I agree that many of our young ladies aren't sure what sex is. I try to answer their questions like I would tell my own children, but it does get tiring. Parents!! Wake up!!

Well, thanks to the Bush administration, "Abstinence only" sex ed is the only sex ed allowed to be taught in public schools. This leaves out birth control methods, etc. So the kids aren't getting all the facts.

I'm appalled by the kids who come on here and are already sexually active but have no idea how a baby is actually made. If I had a dollar for every dry humping, oral sex, my boyfriend touched me with semen on his hands question I answered on here, I'd be rich.
