Personally, I just see them as fun.

Still debating on getting a Buell or another Harley.

Lunar, I am too much woman for you to handle.

I don't see them as "male" power. I love Harleys! And I'd much rather be the one in the driver seat than be a passenger. And personally, I don't care what anyone else thinks about that.

Do they? I don't know any women who ride motorcyles. The woman I know who used to drive a sports car traded it in for a FAMILY VAN. What is 'masculine' about these toys? Why can't women play too? These toys (and similar ones) are usually indulged in by those who can afford them - very often young, single professionals. My friend is a chartered accountant - who eventually chucked it in for stay-at-home mommyhood. Her husband is an engineer, so they can afford this luxury. A computerised sewing machine is her replacement 'toy' of choice.

I also know men who chucked in the motorcycle/sportcar and now drive family vans instead. It's not about gender: it's about what is practical and necessary at various stages of one's life - just try squeezing a family of four into a Ferari.

My aunt owned a 64 1/2 Mustang convertible. It was, and to some extent, still is the coolest sports car I've ever seen.

And I prefer Honda Valkyrie...

Franzia got it right: It isn't easy for people to associate motorcycles and sports cars with women. But whenever I hear the world Harley now, I think of you.

honey..i love motorcycles and old cars. i practically drool when i see them. :P

ah...i remember when i was 6 yrs old and the nice neighbor man who lived next door to my grammy gave me a ride around the block on his motorcycle. he put me in the front and held on to me so i wouldnt fall off..and we went really slow around the block...it was so much fun!

that has been my only motorcycle riding experiance but i remember it vividly.

And i think they started my love for them...

i do not own any because i do not drive...

but that doesnt keep me from loving them.

and the uniqueness and lines and sleekness and just overall quality of older and vintage cars....ooohhhh....

( that sounded completely sexual didnt it? ) lol

Well, there are a lot of men who think that motorcycle riding should be for men only and that women should only ride where they are in the back seat and not controlling the bike. It really offends me when they refer to that as the "***** seat". Personally, there is no way I would ever ride on the back. It's dangerous and the person riding there is more likely to be killed in an accident.

I don't think that it's just feminists who see those things as manly or male power-esque... I think our society views them in that way.

Case in point: Our dear Rebirth's answer.

Because they historically and culturally HAVE been symbols of male power.

But I suppose we can change that, eh? I've kind of always wanted a motorcycle, though I haven't even gotten to ride on one yet!

You mean those that espouse the theory that powerful engines are a man's way of overcoming the "Small member syndrome"? All us guys laugh at that one!
