If you just clean it off it should work fine, but if you are trying to get an apple tree with apples similar to what you have, you aren't very likely to get it. Apples are heterozygous and won't replicate true from seed. You will likely get a crab apple.

No prep really needed. I have grown apple trees from seed and they were great, the problem--the trees will have long thorns like a dagger up all the branches.

never freeze any parts of plants unless under laboratory conditions.if you want to kill them do it.apple seeds can be grown fresh or after storing up to two years.no special requirements are needed just a good potting mix and after care when the seedling has sprouted

I have taken them right from the apple, let them dry a little and planted them with good results

Other than cleaning it off, I don't think any special preparation is needed.
