And secondly, how much would it cost to convert a cess pool to a septic tank? My daughter found a house she wants to buy but it has a "cess pool". Any knowledgable advice is welcomed.

Also, do you think the yard is polluted from the sewage leeching out into the soil around it?

the septic tank is just that and from near the top,you run a finger system of tiles known as a cesspool and stretch it throughout the yard in all directions, trying to keep it in a dry area of the yard and away from the driveway and well areas

I suggest your daughter do a little more checking to be sure it is a septic tank and what the condition of it is.

A cess pool does not always mean a septic tank or system.

A septic system can cost up to $10,000 depending on the location and type.

a cess-pool and septic system perform the same job collection of wastewater from the home and then they seperate solids from the water. cess-pools do not have a fieldline to dispense the water instead the water just soaks out of the bottom or sides. depending on soil conditions a cess-pool will work fine as long as it still meets local codes. almost all new systems are septic systems cess-pools are very rarely used anymore. as far as conversion you are looking at new tank, field lines, gravel, labor (which will vary greatly depending on amount of rock and possibility of blasting), perk test and permits. if the current system works and meets code no reason to change it.

Septic tank and cess pool are the same thing by definition. They are covered underground receptacles for waste. The "fingers" of piping or tile running downstream of the septic tank is referred to as the drain field.

a septic system...their are different septic systems ..class 1,2,3,4,and 5 the system depends on how many fixtures you have in your home as well as property dimensions and square footage as for cost they are all priced according to this as well as tank size as 3600 is the min tank size? dont forget about a soil test?
