I'd say as a whole Queen was a better band.....but considering Renegade is one of my favorite songs I'll go with Styx. Also I just saw Styx live a few weeks ago here in Reno and I have to say Tommy Shaw still has fantastic hair for being in his 50's.

Both Styx and Queen are deservedly rock band icons in their own individual right.
Styx: Their name came from Mythology and so did their song lyrics. Styx was more attuned to the rock "chamber music" sound of pipe organs and synthesizers, leaning more to Emerson, Lake and Palmer than ELO. Note their albums all carried a common story theme.
Queen: Experimental with the rock operatic Euro-British bashedly bold sound, enhanced by Brian May's signature blues-wail sound. Queen's secret of success lay in their exploration of their rock sound(s) and Freddie Mercury's trademark vocal talents. Entertainment troopers as Queen were, their credo hailed loud, proud and still resonates to this very day, years after Mercury's tragic death....................

Styx for me. Queen is good but Styx is better.
