urine tests are not always accurate. Your hormone levels may not be high enough yet, if you are pregnant. I am surprised he didn't give you a blood test. Some people don't come up positive on urine tests until they are quite a few weeks pregnant. your doctor is right in not giving you the birth control yet, since that can have serious effects on a growing embryo. I would ask for a blood test, or wait a few more days and take another urine test. And maybe in a few days you might start your period.

First off, relax. It's only been 3 days. While your period may have always been like clockwork, it can be delayed by up to a week. Have you been under a lot of stress lately? That can seriously affect your normal cycle. Also, you very well may be pregnant, but if you conceived in the last week or two it may not show up yet. It can take 2 - 4 weeks before the hormones in your system register on a pregnancy test.
Wait until Sunday night and take another home pregnancy test. While they are not perfect, they are quite accurate (most in the 99%+ range). Don't break your bank buying test after test throughout the week ... be patient. Give yourself a few more days and take the test again. If you don't have a positive result by then, call your doctor's office and speak to a nurse. He/she can give you more information about your cycle and what kind of issues may be interrupting your period other than pregnancy. Again, one week may not be enough time, you may have to wait until the following week to get a positive return on the test.
In the mean time, avoid alcohol, nicotine, and excessive levels of caffiene (more than 4-6 cups a day - 6 oz cups), just to be safe.

Wait another week or so, and then try taking another pregnancy test. Your hormone levels might not yet be high enough to be detectable by the test. I know waiting is not easy when you're anxious to know for sure. If you've been under a lot of stress lately or had a significant weight gain/loss, that can also affect your period.

I would request blood work. Early on in pregnancy you can get a negative result due to your hcg levels being low.
