but....im due for an elective c-section due to problems in previous pregnancy and current suffering of spd, i didnt go into labour naturally and my waters were broken for me...so here goes i live 35 mins from my hospital,if my waters break at home and i get to the hospital and baby is 10 cm dilated will i go on to have a natural birth (which i dont mind not fussy lol) does this mean the baby would have gone too far for c-section? (how far dilated is too far for c-section) i not worried just curious really, just you hear of so many women having babies so quick, thanks in advance

There is no too far along to stop a natural birth and turn it in to an emergency c-section. Most women have c-sections this way baby is already in birth canal but can't get out the baby ends up in distress and the doctors have to do a c-section to get the baby out safely. Good Luck..

As far as I know how far dilated you are has no bearing on when a c section will be performed. You could well be 10cm and ready to give birth naturaly but if a complication comes up ie babies heart rate drops/stops and it could be quicker to open you up rather than wait for you to push, with some babies you can be fully dilated and pushing for england but it may still take a while to get baby out! so a c section would have to be performed.

It doesn't matter how far dilated you are if your baby is in difficulty they will do the c section. My friend's daughters hair was showing but they still had to do a c section. All they did was push the baby back. If your baby is OK just relax and let it happen naturally it's a lot easier to recover from a normal birth anyway.

there really is no rule--if a women dilates all the way to 10 but then they discover the baby is transverse or the baby does not move down the birth canal well or if its head is too big to pass these are all instances were a c-section would be opted for---but the chances of you getting to 10 and not delivering vaginally are highly unlikely.--good luck with your delivery

Usually they will agree a date that means you will likely to be between 2-3 weeks before you are due, and therefore you'd have to be a bit unlucky if you went into labour before they had a chance to do a C-section. They will not let you go over 38 weeks usually. I was 37 weeks ( i was induced) but they said that was considered term. I hope all goes well. best of luck x

I'm not 100% sure to be honest but I would have thought that if the baby was engaged etc and you were 10cm dilated you would go on to have a natural birth. If the baby's breech or transverse it would be a section. You should ask your midwife/doctor on your next visit. Good question lol. Good luck with everything x x x

Hi, they will still do a C-section at 10cms so I wouldn't worry. What I would say is that if you go into labour then you'll have a bit longer than 35mins to get to hospital. (I went 36 hours after my waters broke ;-) ) Not trying to scare you - just reasure you that you have plenty of time and I would think that you'll have your section fine. Good luck with it and your new baby xx

You can be fully dilated and need a section. But if youre dilated and baby is fine, and you are fine, they will go ahead and let you go vaginal. I believe 4 CM is the turning point.

Hi I don't think you are ever too dilated for a c-section. With my daughter I was actually pushing for over an hour and her heart beat started slowing down so they had to do a c-section to get her out asap. so i don't think there is ever a time that they can not do it .

no amount of dilation is too far; i was emergency c-section at 9cm b/c baby was in distress. i would say, though, that if you are at 10 cm and baby is crowning they should let you try natural birth unless baby is in distress.
