You can upgrade the hard drive on both consoles, buy an Xbox 360 drive to clip onto the Xbox 360 or you have to buy an EXTERNAL hard drive for the PS3 and connect via USB. You can't upgrade the internal PS3 hard drive.

That aside, what games do you want? Decide on which console based on the games you want. Both consoles are about the same in game performance - despite how powerful the PS3 CPU is (for non-game applications) and how the guy above raves on about it's power - don't get taken in by the Sony hype.

if with u the 360 is plenty greater effective, i artwork at a video games save in melbourne Australia and the comparable question constantly comes up ps3 or 360 the 360 has a greater effective on line facilties and people constantly bypass however the Ps3 is on the spot, properly for $20 you may purchase a on the spot port on your xbox360 all i will recormend is that xbox360 is the final and people constantly say the ps3 gets greater effective... it is going to of course yet so will the xbox? so theres in basic terms one million way 2 bypass XBOX360

decide for yourself. as soon as you end up reading all these opinions, your going on what everyone else wants. your losing your individuality. but since you spent points to ask, i'll give an opinion. the 360. cheaper, better games, customizeable, halo trilogy. gears of war, bioshock. this console is best for shooter multiplayer, if thats what your into. even tho it costs to use xbox live, its still better than sonys home, tho it is free. if you buy a year in advance, you get a month free, and its cheaper than buying a month at a time. depends on personal preference. however, the 360 has been plagued by malfunctions, but you can buy a warranty extender, then if it dies, you get a brand new one. buy a cooler, that will extend its life.

I would say go for the xbox. It has better games (Gears of War, Forza, Ghost Recon etc),

The xbox has better graphics on most 3rd party titles (don't take my word for it, check the reviews online)

Xbox achievements are a real bonus, they sound like a simple gimick, but it can get quite addictive building up your achievement score.

The PS3 has better Graphics capabilities, but this potential will take a few years to be realised. By that time I will be bored with consoles and moved back to PC's which will be far ahead of both by then. I have read that New PC games will carry the same achievment system as the xbox and your gamer profile will work with both formats.

Also, the developers find the Xbox much easier and quicker to program for and therefor can spend more time optimising the games. Hence the better graphics on 3rd party titles.

Blu-ray v hd-dvd? By the time the format war is sorted out, video on demand will be more popular. Hence the new 120gb hard drive on the xbox.

Another reason for the big HD on the xbox is to allow games to run from multiple dvd's, this means game sizes can be as big as is needed. They are not limited to 9gbs any more.

Broadband is getting quicker all the time, I have an 8mb connection and download video on demand from SkyAnytime and stream it to through my xbox to my TV. All this can be done from the xbox remote from the comorft of my sofa. So I wouldn't say the media capabilities on the PS3 are the clear winner....Yet!

Controller - better on xbox
Steering wheel - better on xbox
Online play - a lot better on xbox

Also Xbox live arcade is very good for casual gamers.

you are better off getting a ps3 because...

- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player

-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI

- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)

- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360

- online is free for ps3 not like 360

- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring

- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it

- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)

- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p

- built in Wi-Fi

- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)

- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb

- rumble returns in spring 2008

- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)

those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this

Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $399
(elite)- $479
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

to the guy that named couple of games that were releasing in "2009", he clearly doesnt know what he's talking about. those games are coming out in spring 2008

¬_¬ no wii...

if you want my opinion though i wouldn't be able to tell you what in till i know more about you. if you are into great graphics, fantastic racing games and like the PS2 style controls go for the PS3. If you are into shooting games, Halo(as it is probably the best game on the X-Box 360) and the X-Box style controls the go for the X-Box 360.
I know it is not in your options but the Wii is a very fun console and i would go with that if you are more into the all round fun gaming style. The wii is also bringing out more serious games and is a completely new experience for all.

The PS3 has a blu ray player, then again you can get an HDDVD player for the Xbox. The PS3 has got far superior graphics, but no games. write now the Xbox has all the good games out write now, but next year PS3 will start getting games like Metal Gear, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Final Fantasy XIII in 2009..The PS3 supports 1080p and is backwords compatible with

PS3 because Xbox 360s have had nothing but computer problems. I have already known a couple people who bought them and the are already broken. Something about a "Red light" issue in the computer or something. I would definitely pay the x-tra bucks and get a PS3. It will last ya longer.

360 is the best way to go. It has better games and lots of the sports games have better graphics than the PS3 because they run at 60 fps rather than 30. Plus many developers are starting not to like the PS3 because its to difficult to make a game on there. Other than there own games like Metal Gear, and Devil May Cry, I dont think they have anything. So buy a 360 and have fun.
