My son is 7 1/2 months and shows little to no intrest in crawling. He sits well alone and will sometimes go from a sitting position to lying on his stomach and occassionally try to push his legs up etc. Everyone is always asking me if he's crawling yet and acts crazy when I tell them he's not.

Also, sometimes I think he's saying "mama" but only when he's upset. Others always ask me if he is talking as well..do all children talk this early?

Other Mothers please helP??

They start making baby words around 6-9 months, but not usually on purpose.

And crawling is generally starting around 7-8 months. So he's actually right on track.

I dont hear anything alarming really. Just make sure he has enough floor time to try and learn. Talk to him a lot.

:)

I would not worry about it, all children develop at different paces and if he is only 7 1/2 months he probably is not ready to crawl yet. Most babies start crawling around 9 months and start walking around a year. As for the talking, I think that is a bit early also but he probably is making some sort of sounds though.

Crawling usually occurs between 7-10 months, so your baby is developing fine. Some babies never crawl and that is considered OK too--it is not considered a developmental milestone like walking. People that are acting crazy over your son's development must not be around babies very much or have a very limited experience with babies. It is not very kind of them to make you feel like your son is not on track. Also remember that grandparents may forget how babies develop and may ask you questions like this. As far as first words, this usually does not occur until around 1 year of age and in the months after. Mama and dada are common sounds that might be made prior to one year of age. Enjoy the time with your son. I know it's hard not to focus on his developmental pace, but once you can accept that he may not do everything "by the books," you will enjoy your time with him even more. Best wishes!

It's very normal for children who are that young to not crawl yet. All children hit their milestones at different times. Some children even bypass crawling and start standing and walking along furniture such as the couch and the coffee table. It is also possible that he is saying mama, but it may be just him babbling while he's crying. If he is talking, then great! But, don't worry about him hitting those milestones, he will get there! Hope this helps!

Don't worry, he sounds perfectly normal. My son just started crawling and he's 9 months old. He was doing the same thing as your son at 7 1/2 months old too. Every baby reaches their milestones at different times.

OMG he is sooo on point for his age, I hate ppl and their stupid milestone expectations and how they compare. My son was closer to 9 months before he even attempted crawling. He wouldnt really be talking this early either, though he may in fact be saying mama for sure. Dont let it bother you, kids do things when they want to and not before. My son just turned one last week and has no interest in walking and I am fine with that. As long as he is happy and healthy, its ok. I think it shows that you are a good mom to think to ask about these things.

Most children don't get their first word until at least 12 months. "Babbling" is normal, though at 8 months. Mine were all 15 months before walking, and 9 - 10 months before crawling.

All babies are different. For every one who walks at 12 months, one is walking at 10 months, and one is walking at 14 months.

Some babies NEVER crawl - they just go straight to walking.

As long as your doctor says he's doing fine, there's nothing to worry about.

He sounds like he's normal. But you will also have a better idea than we will from this description whether anything here is "abnormal." For instance, if he tries to push his legs up, can you feel that there is muscle strength there, or does it seem very weak? When he is not talking (or is just babbling) does he seem responsive to his environment anyway? If he is paying attention to things around him and seems alert, aware and responsive, it is much less of a worry whether he feels like talking about it.

If you just feel like he's being normal but doesn't care yet about doing those things, worry less. ^_^ But if you feel like he seems to be trying and is too weak, is distracted, or has very poor balance, then your doctor can assist by doing early testing to be sure his sight, muscle development, nerve response, hearing and so forth are all developing normally. I like the comment that he "sits well alone" - this is a good sign about his balance and muscle development. Have him checked if you see things that indicate he can not hear you (for instance, does he respond to noises near him), if he seems to have trouble focusing on objects, and so forth. Otherwise, he may just have other priorities. ^_^

Every baby is different, my son was walking at 9 1/2 months; his cousin wasn't crawling until 10 months - every baby will reach milestones when they're ready.

7 months is usually the earliest babies start crawling so be patient, he'll do it probably soon. Also, do you have hardwood or pergo floors? I read that if you have a carpeted home, babies will crawl and walk much faster because the good grip they good builds their confidence. Hardwood and pergo, along with tile, are slippery so babies shy away from walking and crawl because of lack of traction. Boys are also later bloomers than little girls.
Have patience, he'll do it.
