I think they are a natural occurrence as a result of radical left wing nature freaks. If you do not allow people to build fire breaks, create defensible space around there homes you may not cause a fire but your policies will when a fire comes create a hell on Earth scenario.

LOL, it appears the catalyst for the fires was man-caused (an arsonist but it's too early to tell yet), as opposed to spontaneous combustion or a lightning strike.

Man is possibly what CAUSED the fires now racing out of control in CA, yes.... (not sure what point you're trying to make here), but it IS most likely Global Warming, which has caused the drought in CA and the record low rainfall, resulting in millions of acres of tinder dry trees and underbrush (I live in Arizona, the least humid state in the country- we take the threat of fire VERY seriously because our trees and underbrush are ALWAYS ready to go up in a flash), coupled with unusually high Santa Ana winds fanning the flames and causing them to leap 12 lanes highways AND the widest existing firebreaks in CA are the reason the fires moved so fast and are so destructive.

Again, what is your point? That the fires are manmade, so Global Warming CAN'T be?

Science and Nature are to blame. A transformer exploded igniting the brush in the Witch Creek Area, and the Santa Ana winds have spread the embers from there.

Natural... by virtue of Southern California's natural conditions: dry weather, lack of water, Santa Anna winds (very dry and hot winds).

A man-made condition could spark the fire BUT the natural conditions allowed the out of control and spread of this fire. If a lit cigarette was dropped somewhere outside of Spokane, Washington it could start a fire but not like the California fire. Natural conditions allow that to happen there.

At least one was caused by a downed power line, however on day 3 they did catch an arsonist setting flame to one hill side in the same area. Not to smart since he did so with police helicopter above him so they snatched him up.

These fires could have been set by someone. At one point their was a story in USA Today about a terrorist plot to set fires. Could this be one of them?

Could it have been a lightening strike? An irresponsible smoker? A campfire not put out properly?

Right now it is way too early to know. But I am sure they are investigating it.

It seems they have fires in California every fall/winter.
Democrat politicians have blamed them on George Bush
(so what else is new from their foul mouths?) One White
man has been arrested as he was caught setting a fire
on a mountainside (on purpose). High winds sets the
scene for any spark. This brought out the worst in the Lt.
Governor who said there was no value in Pres. Bush
flying out to California, but they'd be polite. Rediculous.
Almost all presidents go to a disaster that has happened
in their own country. He is the person that gives the okay
for federal help. I'm sick of Democrats politicizing every
darn thing that happens. Another Democrat said we
couldn't get the Natl. Guard to help as we had all of them
in Iraq (we have some there, but we still have plenty N.G.
here in America, but they really aren't needed to put out
fires). The citizens of California are doing well handling
all that's happening without riots and placing blame as
happened during/after Katrina Hurricane.

I'VE HEARD REPORTS THAT THE SAN DIEGO FIRES WERE SET BY AN ARSONIST. IF YOU WERE ALLOWED TO CLEAR OLD BRUSH & DEAD TREES THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN SO OFTEN. SOME TREES WERE KILLED BY A CERTAIN TYPE OF BEETLE & WERE NOT CUT DOWN.

Think of all the animals that have died from these fires, maybe a little bird nest is all on fire. Makes me cry to think about it.

Caused by nature, worsened by man interfering with nature by preventing natural burning over long periods of time..
