I was wondering if there were any safe ways to induce yourself at 34 weeks? I am 33 weeks and they are exspecting me to have the baby or atleast go in to labor around 34-36 weeks as i did with my first to who were VERY HEALTHY! they were both in a healthy weight range and had no complications except a small case of jaundice. the doctor said the baby is about 5.6 pounds and would be ok if i delivered but wanted me to hold out as long as i could, but i am so uncomfortable and in so much pain ( sore ribs from being kicked, pelvic pressure, contractions, vaginal pain like i am dialating or thinning out and cramps in my legs). just wondering if anyone knows of ways to help bring on labor. I used castor oil with #2 and it worked well just want other suggestions. i want to hold out untill about 35 weeks so i am not doing this now.

I don't consider my kids to have been born preterm I think me and the doctor had our dates wrong with both previous pregnancies as well as this one. My baby is messuring 34 weeks at my 32 week check up. and i am in lots of pain yes but i would never do anything to put my child at risk. the pains i am having feel like early labor pains.

There is a way to induce a labor, my professor in college has been a woman's doctor for over 30 years. He has tried this on many of his patients. You can do it or your spouse can do it for you, but all you have to do is rub your nipples a week before you want to give birth. I personally think you should wait a little longer, if your doctor told you to, but when your doctor says its okay to do something to induce than try that. Ask your doctor, and he will tell you that it is possible to induce labor that way. I have asked different doctors and they all told me the same thing.

No! Why would you want to risk the baby's health or your own that early, If something comes up and the baby comes on it's own that early that's a different story but still comes with possible risks. I had twins at 34.5 wks and they were big and pretty healthy, my daughter at 37 wks with only temp control issues, then my son at 36 wks who had several problems and had to stay in NICU for 8 days. Just because your other kids were ok a bit early doesn't mean this one would be. And there is a huge difference between 34 weeks and 36 weeks in development.

What are you thinking?! You got lucky that your other babies were healthy when born pre-term. What's the rush!? Pregnancy isn't always a picnic but you don't make yourself go into preterm labor to deal with that. Your babies lungs aren't fully developed until they're full-term generally. So you risk setting your baby up for breathing issues for it's whole life. Not good. I would let NATURE take it's course and just try to hang in there. It's about the baby right now. What best for THE BABY.

Wait, dont risk the babys health because you are uncomfortable. They come when they're ready. But in your defense, with my second, I used castor oil around 37 weeks, it induced contractions, not labor, my water broke in the middle of the night 3 days later, he was happy and healthy. 35 weeks is too soon though. Not being critical, just dont want you to do something you may regret.

NO!! The baby is not considered full-term until 36 or 37 weeks! His little lungs are not fully developed.

I am 34 weeks along, and I want this baby out NOW, because I am in so much pain, and I am stuck on bedrest, but I know I have to wait!

Believe me, I sympathize with you, but it's just not a good idea.

Dont do it. Anything can go wrong at any time, all pregnancies and births are different. Just keep in mind that this is not the time to think about your own discomforts but rather to think about your baby's safety so just enjoy a few more weeks of having some time to yourself even if you are uncomfortable.

Please don't try to induce yourself any earlier than 37 weeks, that is what is considered full term. I understand you had your other babies early, and that they were healthy, but not all pregnancies are the same. This little one might need more time for his/her lungs to finish developing. Trust me I know where you are coming from, I am in pain everyday, sciatic/hip/muscle all that stuff and I am 33 weeks as well. It's worth it to wait, I did with my 1st. I had him at 41 weeks and 4 days.

I was told that castor oil is risky as it can cause the baby to defecate, and if the baby ingests its own defecation, that can be fatal.

I tried everything, from eating acidic and spicy foods to walking around my block constantly. The night before I went into labor we sat in the balcony for my step-son's christmas pageant, and I had to go to the restroom multiple times, having to climb three flights of stairs, one way.... So, I'm not sure if it is coincidence or not,but the stairs may have helped me.

However, he only came 1 week early...so, I was farther along than you are.

Good luck, and congrats!!

My doctor told me evening primrose oil. You can get it in casule form, and take it 3 times daily. It is suppose to help soften the cervix, so that is why it has the warning label on it not to take if you are pregnant. My doctor said I could start taking this about 2 weeks before my due date, because it does take awhile, not a quick fix for induction. Pair this with frequent sex, even though it is probably the last thing on your mind when you are that uncomfortable. The semen also helps soften the cervix. And then, walk, walk, walk. Good luck!

It's not about you, but about giving you child the best start possible! Do not try to induce your self this early. Yeah maybe at 38 weeks but not before!!!! Think of your child your little baby first!!!!! So your in pain we all are at the end!
