It is not harmfull.. It is still purified water w/ added floride. They say to give babies floride water because they need it for their growing teeth! Have you ever seen people's teeth is a country that has no floride in the water... AUGH!! Nasty! Fluoride, a trace mineral found in most tap water, is best known as a dental cavity fighter. It also helps to form strong bones by bonding with calcium and phosphorus. Thats why our toothpaste has added floride and our tap water has floride in it. It is not harmfull to babies... It is good for their development... Otherwise like you said, it wouldn't still be sold in the stores.

Theres been a lot of issues with floride poisoning lately. There is NOT A REASON known to the medical community that supports the need of an infant having floride.

Why give it if its not needed? Any reverse osmosis water is safe for baby.

Some people get all worked up about "facts" based on junk science. Follow your doctors recommendations and ignore anyone rude enough and stupid enough to say what that woman said in the store. Even people on answers do not have the training your pediatrician has. This is his field of expertise...and you need to follow his advice in this and OTHER matters. You cannot spend the next several years being influenced by every nut who walks by you in the store. There will be other people who tell you what you are doing in other aspects of child care is wrong too. Your pediatrician has your child's best interests as his priority..discuss questions with him/her.

Are you aware that babies don't need water and that it can be harmful for them? Babies already receive the liquid they need from breastmilk or formula. The AAP says that babies don't need water until they begin eating solid foods (at about 6 months). I strongly encourage you to ask your pediatrician about this...just give a quick call and speak to one of the nurses on the phone even. They will be able to give you accurate, reliable info. As for why it's on the shelf, well, there are LOTS of things on the shelves that are bad for babies--walkers, crib bumpers and quilts, etc. I suggest doing research or taking an Infant Safety Class from a local hospital to find out what you need/want to know. That was really helpful for us!

i used nursery water with all three of my kids and they are all perfectly fine. if the flouride was that bad for them the makers would so whatever they could to make sure that there wasn't any in the water. i think its good myself, its good for teeth and if you can get a head start on helping them have healthy teeth, why not? i would never use tap water, there is to much junk in tap water, like rust and maybe even arsenic. there is also a lot of iron in tap water and some iron is good but to much can be a bad thing. a friend of mine uses tap water and when her 18 month old had his iron level checked it was way to high and they know their water has a lot of iron in it. i would keep using the water unless you get some real proof that it is bad. my sister also uses nursery water and her 4 month old is just fine.

I don't buy the baby water myself. Most tap water already has enough fluoride in it. If you have well water however, check the water reports from your water company. Your baby's doctor can tell you if it is enough or not. We have well water, and my son's pediatrician has him on Poly-Vi-Flor, which is just a vitamin with fluoride in it. Either way, that lady had no right to attack you like that!

I gave my daughter bottled distilled water, since i had really bad unfiltered city water at home, until she turned 12mos. Then her doctor recommended the flouride water. Either do your own research to come up with your own educated decision or listen to your doctor. For all you know that woman in the store could have had mental health issues and focuses on conspiracies for killing children. Come on, either trust your pediatrician or get educated on the matter.
