I've noticed that many conservatives are against the concept of political correctness...which I have to agree, can be overblown at times. Free speech should be free speech right?
However, why is it that when a PAC like Moveon.org publishes an ad attacking Petreus, suddenly it's not PC to question a uniformed officer. Well? Either you support free speech or you don't. What is it?

Cons have their own version of PC. I personally call it manners myself. But throw of on religion, try to discuss sex or abortion like a grown up and they crumble.

Is it free speech to yell fire in a theatre?

Certain free speech is restricted by the government, others is not. Attacking a sitting general shows that Moveon.org has no class.

People were offended by this ad, both conservative and liberals alike. I think we should let Moveon.org say anything they want. Most of the crap they spew will simply backfire on them and the democrats they support.

Yesterday a prominent democrat apologized for his outlandish statement in the US House of Representatives. I was glad to see this, but I think his statement did a lot of damage to the democratic and it shows how desperate they are to get back power.

So let them say anything they want and let them look like power hungry idiots. Its a free country!!!

Well, based on observation, the neocons do not support free speech (except for themselves, of course). Some examples:

>immediately after making such a squak about moveon.org, they said equally derogatory things about GeneralSanchez, who criticized Bush and the waar
>the neocons have repeatedly called for police to break up peaceful demonstrations if the activists are taking aan anti-war or other position they disagree with.
>they have attempted to introduce a number of laws--including but not limited to, the anti-flag burning laws--that are clear violations of free speech.

Good question! I've been thinking about this for a while now.

I can't give a straight yes or no answer and I'm sure you can't.
If I have to choose, I'd say no to freedom of speech but I don't really believe that.

I'm thinking of two things:

Neo Nazi's and Hitler.

and someone that once said on here, that he met a girl in a chat room but was disappointed that she was a Jew in a wheelchair. He apparently wanted to make her suffer in the worst possible way for humiliating him.

I've tried to come up with a yes or no answer but still can't do it. I'm sorry. It's far too much of a complex question to give a straight forward answer to.

Sorry

Hmmm so from your point of veiw we will be able to say anything so if we go with that then obscene words and racists comments should be all go then since its free speech and all. Am I right? Like you said either you support free speech or you don't.

you're making an brilliant aspect. would I counter? Political correctness might want to in no way be enforced by a authorities. although, authorities workers might want to play by diverse guidelines. I honestly have became human beings in who worked on the BMV for mistreating Hispanic shoppers. have they were given to love Latinos? No. have they were given the right to maintain their pastime for obviously treating human beings of diverse backgrounds otherwise? No, again. I strongly help loose speech, even for those i bump into despicable. yet do not assume me to appreciate you in case you consistently use disrepectful language.

There is a difference with disagreeing with what someone said and calling for censorship of what was said. I pretty much disagree with the content of many websites. I think the people that say some of these things should not have said them and that many things said are disrespectful and hateful. However I fully support their right to speech regardless of how stupid it makes them look.

Political Correctness is indeed a bit boring.
But the debate lately seems to reduce to
a scrabble game of people with no manners.

You have it all wrong.

Liberals believe in unfettered free speech.
Conservatives believe in responsible free speech.

You don't have the luxury of slandering or libeling another human being just because you want to express something and then hide behind the 1st amendment. Conservatives will come out in force and crush you, and I will be among them.
