As a Texan, why should I care if california burns?

Higher premiums on your insurance bill, if your company does business in California. If you have shares in an insurance company doing business in Ca., your stock is gonna tank. If a refinery has to be shut down in Long Beach , guess where gas prices are gonna go?

For the same reason you should care if New Orleans was flooded.

First, all the people from LA flooded into Texas, and it improved the Texas economy, but not the United States economy, and it caused resentment, because so many people were forced to adopt another culture.

Second, because you are a human (I'm assuming), and if Texas was burning you would want people to care, and for the federal government to offer help.

Third, what if you had family, and/or friends who live in CA (I'm assuming you don't have any), and you didn't want to see them going through a hard time.

I live in Texas, and I care, but that is because I am a Yankee at heart, and though I love Texas; I can't wait to move to CA or New York. Texas is a beautiful place, but it is not all there is to the United States of America, and that fact alone is why you should care.

Have you ever looked at the resources that California provides to the rest of the US? People forget that CA. is a huge agricultural location. Your food and oil prices would skyrocket if CA. burns.

Santa Ana winds and the hot, dry weather is indigenous to that whole area and has been for centuries.

If somebody choses to build a home there, that's their problem.....not mine.

Same with building in a hurricane zone, flood plain or earthquake zone.

If you insist on doing so, make sure you have plenty of insurance - and leave MY tax dollars alone.

I'm all for the Red Cross helping out with comfort for those evacuated but as for money to rebuild in the same dam area so it can happen again in 5 years is foolish and a waste of taxpayer money.

I don't care, frankly. If an order of evacuation has been given and one choses not to evacuate....no pity here. Or if you are so stupid and out of touch with your immediate environment that you don't realize the fire is coming over the hill .... no pity here.
