Because San Diego is NOT New Orleans! Most in San Diego, have a brain and an education. They also have jobs.

My prayer goes out to those people in CA.... no one should go though what they are going though now. However I can't help but feel angry (at beloved gov) about the attention they are getting vs the attention people in New Orleans received after Katrina. Things like yoga, mediation, art & craft, Q&A stations for the insurance companies and FEMA. Our wonderful president is one his way there to visit...... how long he took to get to New Orleans. It is a different situation, but they didn't see the fire coming days before. Last time I check you can (for the most part) see a hurricane coming. What is wrong with still picture. It is still the United States so why is this country so divided? For the person who said that those people were mostly renters, get the facts alot were home owners.....by the way some still have not gotten ther homes back.

I suspect that there is more rugged individualism in Southern California. In New Orleans, individualism has been suppressed by big government and once the people got cut off from their government programs and transfer payments they just didn't know what to do.

1) We're more prepared. October is wildfire month around here (So. Cal.). We know to expect them. Hurricane Katrina came suddenly.
2) Most of the fires are in remote areas where there are no homes, and the homes that are hit have almost nothing left to salvage. If a home goes up, it *all* goes up.

In retrospect,it's clear that New Orleans wasn't a high priority
for the government because most of the people were poor
minorities. The people affected by the California fires are
white and prosperous. Enough said.

It could be that in the current situation most of the people involved are PROPERTY OWNERS and in the New Orleans debacle most were renters.

Well they have been looting, but the cops are actually doing their jobs instead of joining in.

The government responce has been much beeter with this disaster than it was with Katrina. Looks like they learned a thing or two from their mistakes.

bush canceled his obligations to go help the rich white people in california. the national guard is already there. there were no lower class people displaced so everyone was given fair and proper treatment, no one was left abandoned for weeks with no food or drinkable water, and you're wrong, I've been looting all day, I got a big box of J. anistons unmentionables.

Because, even though it is Southern California, it isn't the South. They know people are there to help them, & put out the fires & take them to shelter. Blue state?? Just a guess...

How dare you imply that people in New Orleans behaved abominably because they are predominantly "of color". That is racist.

If you are implying that they acted horrendously because they have modest incomes, you are classist.

If you even dare to mention some other trait that they may share, I will denounce you with my last breath as a bigot.

No, no, no. We are all the same. We are all the same. Happy, happy. Rainbow Smiles. Mankind is like an episode of Happy Tree Friends, without the violence.

There is absolutely no reason why the people in California aren't behaving badly. None whatsoever.
