Yea, it doesn't matter that much to me how candidates treat this issue, I just assumed that somebody would surely report me if I didn't ask some politicalish question!

Congratulations. I quit the moment I found out I was pregnant last October, so I've been smoke-free for just over a year. I still miss it sometimes, though. There was nothing like driving a long straight road on a beautiful day with a great song on the radio and lighting up a butt.
I don't know what the answer is. As long as cigarettes are legal, no matter how dark a message we give, that will just make them more attractive to the average teenager with a mind to be "a rebel." I guess we need a way to stigmatize smoking as something losers do, so it won't seem so glamorous or desirable.

I am unaffiliated with a political party due to the danger of people thinking that I would just buy the party line on an issue without thinking about it first. I don't savor being expected to think a certain way about this issue or that. I make my own decisions based on facts, not rhetoric.
Among those decisions was quitting smoking (eight months ago yesterday/also Chantix).
I think that the anti-smoking platform should be left to the Surgeon General appointed by the President. If the issue is important to you, check into whether the candidate received any contributions from tobacco companies or businesses owned by them. This will be a good indication of where they will stand after the election.
Why does the president and obviously some of your respondents think that taking care of America's children is a "commie" thing or that it is bad.
It is often said by conservatives that "if you're against the war then you're against the troops". Doesn't it also follow the same logic to say "if you're against a health care plan, you're against the kids"? Do we want people in office who would prefer that millions of kids be denied health care of any kind? Let me rephrase - Do we want people in this country who would prefer that millions of kids be denied health care of any kind?

Congratulations!! Yes it doesn't belong in this seciton, but I quit smoking last November (after 21 years). I just played it like, oh man I ran out of smokes, well wait an hour then go get some, at the end of the hour, aww just wait another 6 hours or so see if the cravings get too nasty.... they didn't and I haven't had a cigarette yet.
And I believe Clinton's program to get Joe Camel out of magazine ads and to hold Big Tobacco accountable for their "dosing" cigarettes with nicotine to addict smokers was much more effective than Bush's "Kids Don't Smoke So Why Tell Me Not To?" policies.
While I agree with Billyboy partially, I must say that if two equal candidates were standing in front of me and one supoprted kids smoking and one didn't, I would pick the one which didn't support it.

First, CONGRATULATIONS! I quit almost 4 years ago. It's harder than he**! I was part of the study on Chantex before it got approved. I don't know if I had that or Zyban, but whatever it was, it worked for me.
I don't consider it an issue when I select a candidate for President, or any political office. For me, that is the job for the parents of the child, not the government.
I don't belong to any political party. I vote for who I think will do the best job. I do tend to vote for more Republicans than any other party, but I do vote for Democrats occasionally.

Congratulations. If your relate this to politics my question to you is how much will you be willing to pay to continue? The Cigarette tax is on the table 38% up to ONE dollar. That was included in the SCHIP bill Bush rejected. Tobacco & Fire arms companies are major contributors to political campaigns. Many say just Republican's but both sides dabble. Kids and smoking? Alot has been going on to change marketing strategies allowed by these Bezillion dollar corporations. Like the kool Camel campaign...
I'm Republican, yet often I try and begin as bi-partisan as I can until I read/hear for myself who best meets my ideas. Best of luck. Aloha.

I'm trying to quit, but it's not going well at all. I hope you make it. My wife and I are splitting her Chantex, I guess I'll have to break down and go for my own prescription.
Those damned democrats in congress can't slap a tax on things the average person uses fast enough. (There, I've purged my soul)
I don't think anybody cares what a Presidential candidate thinks about smoking (legal) I'm a liberal independant.

The last time I quit smoking was more than 20 years ago. It was made easier by having various rules where I 'NEVER' smoked, like in my bedroom, living room, car.
Also stopped going to places where there was second hand smoke at the same time - that's almost a must for anyone trying to quit over the short term.

I don't smoke, the cigarette does and besides, I like it. Can you give up food? You don't need it cause you can get everything you need from dietary supplements. Food turns into farts the that help cause Global Warming.
Sorry but I'll just keep smoking and pissing off others. there's nothing like a good fight over something that's already in the air thanks to all of the factories, volcanoes and forest fires.

I think Barack Obama just advises the kids to smoke Marlboro Lights.
PS. If anyone out there is a cigar smoker,if you haven't tried the Sopranos line of cigars by CAO you have to try them, they're quite good. There's my free plug, the taxes will help Hillary pay for her health-plan,so it's all good.
