It makes it not only easier to look in the mirror but easier for me to look myself in the eye and easier to live with myself. I feel awful If I have lied or done something wrong to someone. I lied straight to one of my professors last night about my car being broken down....just so I could skip class.

I've heard the expression, "How can you look in the mirror at yourself". Personally, I don't think guilt is a problem when looking in the mirror. It's more subtle.. more dark. Guilt can keep you from sleeping. I've had guilt make me feel like I wanted to wriggle out of my own skin.

It wasn't a matter of pursuing worldly goods. It was reflecting on the past and feeling bad that I hadn't helped someone when I could have. The sin of omission.

I know that the religions of the world cause much unhappiness, but one constructive thing that many religions require is the examination of ones conscience. Taking time to reflect on our actions and how they influence others... perhaps the environment, too... is a very useful thing. As I've become older, I've come to consider almost all of my actions and what consequence those actions have.

I used to practice medicine. I absolutely had to be 100% on it 100% of the time. Never allowed to make a single mistake. That mentality makes for the world's biggest hard @ss. People complain that I expect perfection from everyone. I expect even more from myself.
Still I DO have worldly desires. It's the only part of me that's human.

My conscience is clear. I am honest and straight forward. I have just about anything a person could want. I have a nice little home, a good family and not indebted to anyone. I had a very rewarding career in caring for others. I am contented with my life.

I have no trouble looking in the mirror.

Doesn't hurt but then, I'm so good looking anyway, I could look into the mirror even if I were a terrorist...just kidding about the terrorist part. :-)

Yes I feel good when I look into the mirror and I know that others have benefited from my doing the right thing.
