I'm moving in with my boyfriend and just noticed that a brown box on the outside wall of the house is loose. There are several cables running off it. I think it's something to do with the satellite dish. Is it? And does it matter that it's a bit loose ie pops up at the bottom?

The cables go upward to the roof. Heading toward the satellite dish.

As it is brown I would suspect it was fitted as an extra, as a junction box for cables.
These cables could form part of the telephone or alarm or satellite systems.
Or sometimes a water meter can be a box fitted on a wall too, although it is unlikely to have cables.
There should be some writing on the box, such as CTV or CAT (cable television) or it might say Ionica or comtel or something similar. These are TV installations. It is significant to look at where the cables lead to, weither they head up onto the roof, or go down underground etc.

Could be a phone or cable box. It doesn't matter, it just looks better and gives more protection to the cabling when it's secure.

If the wires look like those hooking up to your TV they are probably coax cabled from your dish or cable company. These will be round (probably black) and have a screw fitting on the end.

our brown box is the gas mains ?? this has pipes going to it though, check it out to make sure its not a serious issue that could cost money or be a danger in the ,, its not sky ,, it could be cable tv ??

this box is either cable or telephone.
see if you can see a cable running from this going into building try to find box on inside of wall to see what it is.......

Could be an old Rediffusion box, or junction for coaxial TV cables.

normally the breaker or fuse box is grey,so the one you mentioned might be a cable box

It could be your cable line or more likely its your BT line.
