The average depth is 4½ ft.

So start by figuring the volume in cubic feet.

12 x 24 x 4.5 = 1296 cubic feet.

Next you need to know how many gallons in a cubic foot.
There are approx. 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot.

Multiply:
1,296 cu. ft. x 7.48 gallons/cu. ft. ≈ 9,695 gallons.

in regard to the post above mine^^: as much as it is wrong for me to assume a linear pool bottom, you cannot assume that the pool is half 3ft deep and half 6 ft deep, therefore the average pool dept is also based on an assumption.

assuming that the bottom of the pool is flat, as in it linearly goes from 3ft deep to 6 feet deep we can do the following:

Top section of pool: 12' x 24' x 3' = 288ft^3

Bottom Triangular section of pool: 0.5 x 12' x 24' x 3'= 144ft^3

288ft^3+144ft^3 = 432ft^3

432ft^3 x 7.48gallons/ft^3 = 3231.36 gallons of water
