I just moved to the Akron area. There aren't many talent agencies in this area. ONe of them is Pro Model and Talent / Baribizon. This is where my curiosity comes into play.

I have read all the scam reports and so forth online. I have read the one writeup on Answers about this company. But i am hoping to get a little more detail.

I am not new to acting. I have done it for almost 2 years where I used to live. But I am looking for representation up here. I am in no dire need of acting classes or catwalk classes. That and I am 27 so I am not as gullible as some. Just for representation, what is Pro Model like?

That link will give you some pro and con opinions about the company you asked about. At your age you should know better than to consider a company that is in choots with the likes of Barbizon. On that same website do a search for their name and see how many more ripoff reports come up. I believe that Pro-Model is simply a division of Barbizon and all these ripoff companies are just finding new ways to cover their tracks.

I have no idea how far you are from Chicago, but you'll find many more legit agencies there and you do not need training, just the physical requirements and a great look. The agencies will help with the rest.

This is the SAG List is acting agencies, many of whom most likely have modeling divisions:

This is a page of agencies I found online, but obviously you can't trust that since Pro-model is listed. You'd have to check any of them out for yourself:

Maybe you can cross referrence with the SAG list.

good luck!

Is Pro Model Talent part of Barbizon? Don't go there! Got to be a better agency somewhere nearby.

I won't down anyones company, however, I would STRONGLY recommend not going to either one of those if you actually want to get a job. I would have to ask, have you taken acting classes? These are always beneficial not just from an educational side, but reputable acting coaches have strong ties to the industry. Also, although I am not familiar exactly where Akron is located in proximity to other major markets such as Columbus or Chicago... are you willing to travel? These two particular markets have a strong commercial acting, and commercial modeling markets.

My tip, if you want to work find a company that specifically has 'AGENCY' at the end of it's name. Don't pay for anything upfront for representation by an agent, if they ask, then they aren't an agent. Good luck to you!

Barbizon/Pro Model is a studio. Not an agency, its a very distict difference that most people seem not to be able to grasp. They teach acting, if you want training go to a studio. If you want representation go to an agency.

Regarding ripoffreport.com etc. google Les Henderson and Ed Magedson, they run those sites and actually blackmail business to have the falsified complaints removed. Check it out and whenever you trust random sites which are wholy negative, research the site itself. These two guys have pretty much single handedly discredited the training industry.

Stay away. Rip-off. You will suffer if you use this agency. Call your local film commission. Ask for an accredited list of SAG Agencies. Ask for advice in finding legitimate teachers as well.

They are complete scams! Please do not sign with them. They make you pay thousands and thousands to take modeling or acting "classes." They are not real talent agencies!
