Good and Evil are based on the judgment of the evaluating group. This line has a center which is no effect on the group, and the two ends that represent the benefit and detriment of the evaluation Group. Anything to the detriment of the group is evil.

Since every group has there own needs, One group can call good what another defines as evil. An example might be Pro-Life Vs Pro-Choose evaluation of an abortion doctor.

In defining evil and good, The shades of Grey are infinite and subjective.

Tto answer the question quickly, if we define evil as nothing more than a concept, then the answer is yes, it exists, if so much as one person who has ever lived has thought it, because it was a concept in his mind.

But this definition leaves us with a sense that we're missing something because, with it, the concept of evil is easy to create but hard to make relevant. Those of us who have confronted the perpetrators of the evil we have deemed to exist know that what we call evil is called justified self-interest by those who enjoy its advantages. And whether evil exists in a particular instance becomes a question of whether or not one benefits from the events that have taken place. But if the concept of evil is to have meaning, it is the perpetrators, not the victims, who must be capable of recognizing its reality.

We think of evil as something bad. But if, beyond that, we assume we all know it when we see it, we run the risk that only the wrong people ever see it, most of the time. We need a better definition. Better, not in the sense of one that gains universal acceptance, but in the sense of one that is highly specific because, when we talk about whether or not something exists, the definition will determine our answer. If evil is a concept that need only be recognized by one person somewhere, evil is everywhere. If evil requires universal acknowledgement within the human race, it disappears immediately. By modifying the definition, we move from evil that surrounds us to evil that is impossible to find.

evil is fear. it is not something which truely exists, but it can be one of the most potent motivators when someone does believe in it. i agree with the other answer which says the ego is evil, but i do not limit it to this definition so much. the ego is the source of a great deal of fear and therefore a great deal of evil. i also believe the Id (impulses and instincts) to be a great source of fear, and therefore also evil. anything which causes fear is "evil" but at the same time, if you can look at that thing without fear, it suddenly is not evil anymore and is only a part of the cycle. evil doesnt exist, only the idea of evil which is caused by fear.

Evil is the dis-organizing force that we all seem to have more or less of. It wants to destroy order, communication, trust, closeness, and love. All things that require order and peace and organization. Evil could be equated to chaos or anarchy. It also seems to contain an element of wanting to hurt people and destroy property. But I think the most immediate and common form of it is the social destruction of order and trust and love.
