I doubt it, but this reminds me of a little story my grandma told me . . .

During the Depression, her brothers were all volunteer firefighters. They got paid $5 dollars when they repsonded to a fire. She said they would pile up hay in the canals (it's CA, so they are usually dried up) and deliberately set them on fire so they could get $5 each to have fun for the weekend!

The Maibu fire was started by high winds knocking down a power line. I suspect the same with regard to many of the other fires. The fire east of Irvine in Orange County is arson.
MSNBC is in a ratings war and some of their stuff really stretches credibility. Yesterday they were trying to blame President Bush because some of the California National Guard personnel had been mobilized in support of the war against terrorism and that left California short of needed personnel. Forget the fact that 3,000 Guard personnel were mobilized out of a force of 20,000 and that even those personnel were carefully selected so as not to affect the state's ability to deal with autumn fire season.
In short, that network is becoming an embarassment as a news gathering and reporting organization. I count that decline from the time, a few years ago, when one of their anchors turned to an "expert" on the set and asked: "Would you care to speculate on those assumptions?".

The firefighters in the article were SEASONAL firefighters. They work during the HIGH season of fires. They know they will be laid off eventually.

You're an idiot. Enough with the conspiracy theories. No one can control the fact that we get very little rain, providing unlimited fuel for burning, and the Santa Ana winds that hit us EVERY season.

God bless our firefighters!!!
