I've always tried to be the kind of person who does really well in school/college, has time to spend with family and friends, works part-time, and still manages to help people by doing volunteer work.

So far I have not succeeded.
If I get a job, my marks suffer... if go out with friends or family, I have no time for this and that.... how do you get out of this constant stuggle?

You have to make choices, based on your assessment of your abilities.

If possible, avoid a paying job or volunteer work. You are at a time in your life when you should concentrate on your education. You'll be working for pay for the rest of your life. Your education is now.

As for volunteer work, the same thing applies. When you're getting ready to take off in an airplane, the attendant lectures you that in the event of need, oxygen masks will appear. You should make sure of your own oxygen mask before you help others. What good is it if you fall unconscious and you couldn't help the other person either?

At this time in your life, blocks of spare time will appear among all the studying and classes. Take advantage, and party hearty.

When I was in university my marks suffered when I got a job too. I failed every test and assignment for a week and decided my priority was school and quit my job. I was an honor student in high school and barely had to work at it. In uni I had to work my buns off to be average.

Don't be so hard on yourself; you're in a really tough program! Doing well at it will BE your full time job. You'll get more benefit out of the program if you focus more of your time on it.

Volunteer during your time off; during summer or Christmas break. Keep spending time with your friends and family, but they'll understand if you have to leave early cuz you have an exam tomorrow. School - and life! - are always a struggle for balance. When you get home from class, sit on the couch for ten minutes and just relax. That can actually go a long way.

Good luck in school! :)

You don't have to do it all right now. Like the other person said, it's all about priorities. College years are crazy but there is life after college too.

You need to just slow down. And make your priorities first. Live for you. Don't live for anyone else...Yes, I like helping others also...but if it's interfering in my life then I kinda step away...and deal with my own life first. So...I'd put scgooling first...then work. and on your days off...hang out with friends or family.
