My son had the flu a few months ago. He had diarrhea and was vomiting at the same time. The smell of both was making me gag.

A G.I. bleed. Non-medical folks may not have had the opportunity to be introduced to the odor, but believe me, that smell is not something you'd ever forget and its not easy to deal with a patient to whom this is happening without making awful faces. Can't be helped. Wearing a mask helps, if only to hide your expression.
