I thought it was commemorating the 250th time that Versus has played the Sidney Crosby special in the last 2 days.

It celebrates the 250th anniversary of the city of Pittsburgh. It's great that the Penguins are doing it but the Steelers and Pirates should have as well.

This is also the 40th anniversary of the Penguins franchise.

it's a patch commemorating the 250th anniversary of the city's founding. Yes, Pittsburgh has been around that long. The penguins haven't though.

But seriously it's the 250th anniversary of the city of Pittsburgh.

You could call it Pittsburgh's bi-centennial and a half.
It's not nearly as old as the city I live in...about 339 years or so.

Jeff is right about what the patch means. By the way, Jeff, the Penguins have been around 40 years (this year is their anniversary). That's pretty good for a franchise. :)
