I support No-Kill Animal Shelters by donating items and money. . . . but i adopt from animal pounds. It's not the animals fault that they are not in a no- kill shelter.

pound--because it would be saving a life. I agree its not the dogs fault
A puppy mill is a really really bad place where people breed a lot of dogs alot of times a year

No way pet shop, thats supporting puppy mills and they are over priced. I have adopted from no kill shelters in the past but now that I'm even older I pick animal control, which is the pound as your describing. These dogs only have a couple days and then they are put to sleep if rescues don't come and get them or if someone doesn't adopt them. They are high risk to me and the high risks are the ones I go for now.

Pounds and kill shelters need the most help. The ASPCA is even partnering up with some of those to reduce the number killed in shelters.
Here are the statistics for the Richmond SPCA which made themselves a low-kill shelter in 5 years. They're just a small local group.

Here's Peta, the largest animal rights group in the world.

Just an hour and a half away, PETA kills 90% of the animals it takes in, whereas a shelter that takes in strays over in Richmond manages to save almost 80%.
Pounds need all the help they can get. Only with the help of the public can they become low-kill too..

You don't ''adopt'' from a pet shop......you buy.
I adopted my cat from a local no-kill rescue that I volunteer with.
I plan to never step foot inside a pound, unless I'm able to adopt a dog. My heart goes out to the ones who are less than perfect, and may very well be on their last few days there. I went inside one once, fell in love with a Rottweiler w/demodectic (sp?) mange, and unfortunately, was not in a situation to adopt (was looking for my friend's dogs who got lost). I was heartbroken for weeks.

I would try a shelter first but there is also a website for rescues.

No-kill and the pound. Whichever was in the most need of devoted want-to-be pet owners.
Good luck in the seach for your new friend.
