I often get frustrated in GWS, reading the crap that people ask and respond. As, I'm sure, many of you (both feminists and non/anti feminists) do as well.

So I thought...wouldn't it be wonderful if we could nominate one from each side...someone who sticks to the subject matter, without throwing in side jabs and immature comments. Then, we could post questions of a political or socially relevant nature, and have the representative from each side respond. I'm hoping that each side would choose a respectful and thoughtful representative...someone who is well versed in the views of 'their side', and someone who will maintain a focus on the subject at hand. It would be a true testament to the discussion of feminism...wouldn't it?

EDIT: Not an impossible dream at all! It would take very little organization and orchestration...just a time commited by each side, and questions emailed to the moderator in advance. The moderator then posts the question, and each side responds. Of course there will be other responses...we cannot use this forum exclusively for our purposes...but I would suggest that a commitment to intelligent debate by each side would be fascinating.

I do find it amazing that it is the feminists who have responded in a positive manner, even suggesting representation. But it is the guys/trolls/anti-feminists who seem to see the impossibility of it...hmmmmm...what does that say????

EDIT: Guns Fan....you are predictably responding as you do to EVERY question. You never commit to a position, except to blame women or feminists for all the ills of the world. If asked for an example, you cannot provide one. I am not surprised that you see the impossibility of this proposal, and your closed off little mind seems incapable of seeing anything but black and white, and what is directly in front of you...

I'll take a seat in the middle of the theater eating an entire tub of popcorn by myself and hope for some interesting topics.

Thanks, Ms. Lioness for the nomination, but I must respectfully decline. I still haven't recovered from the last campaign. Plus, I'm a little nervous about another assassination attempt.

The challenge here is to get people who are not too left or right, but not too centrist either. How to strike that balance?

I think that Rio is a good choice. She's smart and not too in-your-face. So, she's less likely to get baited (or bait) into a bench-clearing brawl.

Cassius, I think, is a good choice on the non/anti side.

Either Super Ruper or Ms. Lioness could moderate since they tend to see things from both sides.

First, my thanks to Rio and Puma for their nominations. I appreciate the compliment.

And I would be more than willing to debate Carrie or Tera, both of whom I quite like. I don't know Tera as well, but I have a lot of respect for Carrie's fairness as well as her wit.

It should noted however that there are many topics about which I agree with feminists. If we're discussing legal and policy issues, it is more likely I'd take the feminist side anyway - even if the arguments I would use and the principles to which I would appeal would be different. If we're discussing matters of culture, rhetoric, philosophy, or interpersonal relationships, there might well be a debate, because it is in these areas that I differ from much feminist opinion.

EDIT

I didn't mention this, because I don't think it would be my place to pick feminist representatives, but let me just say that I am pleased to see someone finally mention waswisgirl. The woman is smart and she's thoughtful.

sounds great super.... I would like to back lioness as referee, or perhaps even you, as I don't know what stance you take (ie feminist, or non-feminist, you dont sound like an anti feminist to me)

I would nominate Gnu Sense as the non-feminist advocate and perhaps, hummm, Carrie as the Feminist advo. I would also go with good ol'' Trolly or maybe ΛתŧĩмĩŝãתŊřŷ as the anti-feminist advo.

maybe we could organize this as a fantasy football type thing. we go rounds on picking players. we can keep track of points and such, and at the end of 6 moths or so we could tell what the group census is... just brain storm-in

great suggestion although this something i WOULDN'T like to get involved in whether or not anyone has considered nominating me.

I would nominate steve cos i think he is less blunt and radical. we could tell from his posts that he is a traditionalist and an anti-radical feminist. so when will this debate be on?

I nominate Carrie or Professor C (even though I suspect the Prof is the one who keeps thums downing me lol) for the feminists and Celtish or TrollShark or Mathewssh for the non/anti-feminists.

I would like to nominate Lioness because she is fair and respectful but I'm not sure that she fully belongs as a feminist.

You should ask the question and moderate Super Ruper.

I say Object of it's Ire, Carrie, Waswisgirl, Baba Yaga, Franzia Kafka, Patios or Dierdre O for our side of things.

I love to see any one of them spank one of happy's many incarnations, or even Lycra.

Then again, I agree with some of the above, at least Gnu would represent a challange.

Curious to know who will be the author of the questions.

Just as important as the people having the debate would be the chosen subjects/areas to debate. Some subjects seem to be like the middle east, a constant hornet's nest, while others end up bearing more fruitful discussion, mostly because women/feminists are more comfortable with them. Do we broach the more important but difficult subjects, or wait a couple of decades for certain 'totalitarian egos' to be forced to admit to certain realities? Instead, do we talk about subjects that are more comfortable for these women?

Interesting idea you have there. I would nominate Gnu Sense for anti-feminist/non-feminist and Lioness/Flyinghorse/TERA for the feminist side.

Hmmm, not a bad idea. The rational people here certainly deserve more attention.

I nominate TERA for the feminists, and Gnu Sense for the non-feminists.

i grow to be going to assert faith because of the fact I delight in discussing it, yet particularly theres not plenty element in debating faith. i don't attempt to alter others minds approximately their religious ideals and don't choose them to purpose and alter mine. faith is relaxing to talk regardless of the undeniable fact that. i think of its considerable to talk politics because of the fact it may help people to artwork out subjects that consequence all people in on a daily basis existence. I strongly have faith we ought to constantly have as many freedoms as obtainable. each and each man or woman has the proper to make their very own judgements and as long as they are not harming all people else, the government shouldn't intervene. i think of its considerable for conservatives to open their eyes and end attempting to dictate the way others stay so even regardless of the undeniable fact that i don't love speaking approximately politics, its plenty greater effective to talk that then faith.
