joe s Canada never claimed the Artic oil was theirs to begin with. Why fly bombers for that then.

Not hardly. Russia is not going to do anything over Iran, but flex their muscle and Sabre rattle. We would do the same, but neither country would even contemplate going nuclear when their own country is not even threatened. They certainly wouldn't do it over a dog like Iran.

Right on Edge thanks for the links. It's pretty understood Cheney is around the Caspian Sea... and he does not want to leave this mess on the table. You may be right. As we move they restructure ... like the game Battleship. Yet far more severe consequences. But we do keep a large group of our own subs regularly off the NO East coast... Very interesting.
*edit: you know Norway was in there... they have been supplying Europe with an alternate pipeline as they try to lessen their dependence on foreign, hostile oil sources.
Trans Caspian Sea Oil Pipeline is a big issue. Russia & Iran both want the resource while the peaceful route into the Black Sea goes against their agenda's.
It could be defining territory in these new routes as the pole opens... I doubt it. Just a continued threat, in my opinion. Via Putin who is hell bent on removing years of Democracy. I have yet to read my papers today. chinadaily.com.cn is one, persian journal ... tx

Nice find. I did see a blurb in this in the news, although your links provide more detail. I always equate military games to sabre-rattling, or maybe I am just naive. Iran did similar things when we moved a carrier group into the gulf to conduct war games. It's just a way to show off.

No they now have the funding to return to Military Operations. I think one of the funniest things I have heard was one of the Russian Generals saying "why is England so upset? We are giving them something to do." Prior to the massive loss of funding this was how both countries were and it does provide the opportunity to exercise our own military and defense capabilities without engaging in war.

Russia has been doing this for over 2 months. Russia is attempting to re-establish as a world power. This is again causing "Cold War" tensions between all countries. This situation is very volatile.

I must be combined training exercises,
the Russian's are what they used to be miliatrily and our pilots are fresh, so what ever an attack would not be welcomed, but would be interesting readin and I can watch the results on the history channel in ten years.

Not with Tu-95 Bears, more like waving a flaccid arm than flexing their muscles.

No, Russia is testing Canadian defenses because they want to claim the Arctic as theirs for the oil.
If they cared about the US they would be flying their bombers off the east coast like they did monthly during the 1980's.
Edit:
Edge-
They just want to see what Canada has done since this announcement in Aug. Expect more of it.
