I'm for decriminalizing marijuana, I don't think society is ready for legalizing it again. Yet how I feel about it is simple, I believe that individuals in this society have a right to smoke marijuana as long as their use of marijuana doesn't infringe on the rights of other individuals.

Even my father-in-law the cop thinks it should be legalized and regulated just like alcohol. And I agree.

Let me tell a short story as to why it is victimless crime.

about 15 years ago My ex and I were contacted by the 10 year old girl next door because she was being molested and her mother wouldn't believe her.

So we contacted the cops and he was arrested. We got subpoenaed and were ordered to court for 2 days in which we sat and watched case after case of marijuana possession get 5 years in prison, 10 years in prison etc. Almost no one got probation of any kind.

The child molester admitted to his offense, the judge gave him 5 years of probation and sent him back to live with the same little girl again.

the war on drugs is a war on people that just want to have a good time that has unforeseen real and harmful consequences where bad people go free while good people go to jail.

It is completely fLIcked up.

Legalize it!!! If politicians smoked weed fairly of drank martinis, pot could already be criminal and alcohol could be banned. all of it has to do with the wealthy. Marijuana became unlawful b/c purely damaging immigrants smoked it and that they theory that would cause them to circulate back homestead, labored real nicely huh? i think of we concentration way too lots on what people must be doing. the government ought to concentration on conserving people fairly of attempting to be the ethical police. fairly of filling our penal complex with drug addicts we ought to consistently open greater therapy for those that actual % help. Drug abuse if a victimless crime. If i'm at homestead getting extreme ingesting a weeks well worth of groceries, who am I hurting? no one, all those Cheetos i offered in all likelihood only helped stimulate the financial gadget, lol! in spite of the shown fact that, in the event that they make it criminal they loose all that investment for the conflict of drugs. Like each and every little thing else, the conflict on drugs all started with good intentions and now's only yet another gadget too concentrated on itself to do what it substitute into meant. till now my lifetime is over we are able to work out pot in shops I only comprehend it!

I think it hasn't happened because the government wouldn't be able to tax it or regulate it well because everyone would just be growing it. It's too easy to grow your own, so they wouldn't get their piece of the pie. Solution? Maybe charge a fee of $500 a year for a growing license. And assess a penalty of $10,000 if you're caught growing without a license. If that sounds too expensive, how much does a regular smoker spend on weed in a month?

If I were president I would make 4/20 a national holiday and their would be parade and in stead of throwing candy out we would throw 10 sacks, pre rolled joints and flavored blunts to everyone and It would be all different sorts of bud I would make It the best damn thing a President ever did!!!! oh and we would make a giant metal funnel and put a butt load of weed in the top and have it hoisted up above the main streets at the beginning of the parade and everyone who could fit would stand under it while a plane would fly over the top and shot bullets to lite it just stand with our heads up and inhale!!!! i could go on for hours but am starting to get carried away

Ur all hippies for answerin this one, but i don't care. It should be know that no one has ever died from smokin the reefer but people overdose and die from alcohol and from other drugs that do damage the body, like cigarettes and needle/snortin drugs; so yes it deserves to be legal.

I disagree with it because it's a slippery slope. If everyone has marijuana then people will either 1) get used to it and need a "stronger" drug to get high or 2) not be different anymore. A big part of the mary joe world is that people are being "rebels". They won't be rebels anymore if anyone can do it.
I might be biased as I have had friends die from other people doing illegal drugs and getting behind the wheel of a car and killing my friends. So I have no sympathy for the users in this area.

i think that because scientific studies have shown marijuana to be less harmful than alcohol, it definitely should be legal. im not sure if i believe in medical marijuana, but it should be legal for recreational use. back in 1944 the mayor of new york city, Fiorello LaGuardia had a study done on marijuana. it was found to be almost completely safe. but the federal bureau of narcotics ignored these findings and kept it illegal, mostly out of racism towards Mexican immigrants who had introduced marijuana, and the blacks of the Harlem Renaissance with whom it was very popular.
later in the 70's it was almost legalized but because an aide of jimmy carter's was caught with cocaine, he increased the "war on drugs" to save his image.
so as you see marijuana wasnt really outlawed for any good reason at all, and we should definitely be able to smoke it

Can you say tax. Legalizing pot will result in controlling the quality and quantity as well as another product for taxation. Pharmacological it is not healthy anymore than tobacco or alcohol. Personally I am not against legalizing pot except for the government control and taxation that would result from legalization.

No, bad bad idea.

ban all drugs, including alcohol.
ban the lot & no more
" i can't remember i was Drunk "
& no more
" sorry i got high & couldn't be bothered "!
the worse thing nu-labour EVER did was down-grade a potentially harmful drug.
the amount of mental-health problems that have landed on the NHS door-step, by dim teenagers who MIS-UNDERSTOOD the down-grading as practically legal!
creating more problems for an already over-stretched NHS budget!
