why become a resident of costa rica..... i have friends hes american and shes costa rican... they visit costa rica all the time and can stay up to 6 months...

Any time he wishes.He is a "resident" of Costa Rica,however he is still a "citizen" of the U.S. (unless he renounces his citizenship and has applied for Costa Rican citizenship)

He can visit whenever he wants as long as he has his Costa-Rican Passport. That is unless he never claimed citizenship in Costa Rica, then he is still an American Citizen,

Residency is not the same as citizenship. The residency does give him certain benifits in the country that are not available otherwise but he still maintains his U.S. citizenship and can return anytime.

if he choces to be a costa rican resident i would of thought he can still go to the usa as the spanish and mexicans are still part of the usa? if he choices to be a resident allen then he can still go when ever but if he works or goes to school it would be easier to go but contact the american ebbasey as they would know more im just going by me and also if he has family they can sponser him and if he is an american citzen there should be no probs

You need to return once a year to maintain your citizenship. If you've given up U.S. citizenship then you are under the same visitation rules as any Costa Rican. It's a beautiful country - hope you're both happy.

He will always be a U.S. citizen unless he gives it up, and as long as he is still a U.S. citizen he will always have the right to enter the U.S. whenever he wishes.
The notion that he has to return once a year is completely FALSE.
He still has to pay U.S. taxes, wherever he lives or makes his money.

He never loses his US Citizenship (except under very unique circumstances, such as joining a foreign army and fighting against the USA.)
He can come back at anytime.
