It is a necessary evil. Although animals do not fully respond as humans they usually get pretty close. It limits the damage that people would suffer if the testing was done only on them or worse, if products were not tested at all.

Obviously some common sense is needed and a lot of testing can or should be avoided. But i would much rather have product tested on anything or even anybody before I used it myself.

AN oddity. Lots of products, especially cosmetics used to be tested on prisoners who would get time off for good behavior. Seems like a reasonable compromise. I wonder if they still do it.

That's a tough one, it's a moral dilemna. On the one hand, animal testing has made huge advances to developing vaccines for lethal diseases and saved countless human lives and on the other animals have been exploited with cosmetic testing and for products that do not benefit humankind. I believe in animal testing for the genuine benefit of humankind, saving human lives. But the food and cosmetics industry should be prohibited from using them.

I agree with some of the replies about dogs and cats taking test. Because of the way the question is asked.

Then there are the obvious replies by people strictly from an emotional point. Sorry, but emotions, caring for animals does not equate to a better life for humans or animals. Might make you feel better or superior, but it means nothing.

I don't see replies by anyone that knows anything about using animals in research. If you understood, you would realize the necessity of it. We simply have no other method of doing research that would yield significant data with real conclusions.

The most used animals for research are lab mice and rats. Most people don't have an affinity for rats and mice. There is some research that requires the use of other animals, simply by its nature, like nutritional studies for cattle feed.

Most research using animals is harmless to the animal. The yields are very important. Think about it. Millions of people are dying every year of malaria. And some of you folks don't want researchers to test serums on mice and rats. That is just plain cruel to your fellow human beings. No matter how you feel about humans, they are the most important animal on Earth. You must love and understand people, before you can animals.

You devour Meat?... An Yummy hamburger or a delicious crimson meat tendor loin?. i'm asking you by way of fact distinctive people communicate only such as you whilst munching poultry lollipop. in case you do, then first ingredient you need to do is to alter right into a strict vegitarian. which could make a distinction. added: that is not approximately 'torture' or 'soreness'. that is approximately existence one has to think of. existence has a greater which potential. to stumble on it, only think of of your existence. you're eliminating somebody's existence to fulfill your want (starvation subsequently) which will have been actual fulfilled via somethingelse. i don't join the stupid argument that it rather is ok to devour the animals as long as they don't go through with soreness. via asserting so, we are only being hypocractical. what's the version between the 'existence' of a guy or woman and the 'existence' of a poultry?

D24 is right - and that's really why it's so abusive; after several weeks of nothing but failing grades, the animals are all hostile, frustrated and sulky. You've taken happy, healthy normal animals and turned them into teenagers. Oh, the humanity!

They should spare the poor, innocent, helpless little animals and test things on illegal aliens instead.
