I think Tool is the greatest example...they don't appear on MTV, VH1, etc., they don't do interviews, and they insist on their privacy...Maynard will go as far as hiding way back in the stage or even behind a screen during concerts so the audience can't see him. But despite all this they have amounted a MASSIVE following. I can't think of a single other band that has done this with the same success. And the best part is all they really care about is getting their message across to their listeners, which can't be said for barely any other bands at all

In the age of MTV (when they played videos) I was a big New Order fan. The group rose from the ashes of Joy Division and never seemed to care about looks or style. The music they made is what mattered.

I think the band "Molotov" could be considered a group that never played into the whole image war. They've stayed fat, ugly, and rockin.

I think Tom Petty did. He, along with The Heartbreakers, were definitely a no-frills band.

PANTERA..and they loved it that way!!!NO MTV,NO VH1...NO THANKS.....
TOOL is another....neither band cared for "image"...if you like the music,cool...come on board...if not...that's fine to...gotta love that in todays "music"....instead of some "flavor of the month sound..or image".....gee what's hot this month=LAME!!
