...How do you define "real"?
I'm a non-theistic Pagan. I practice witchcraft. It's a combination of symbolism, psychology, self-hypnosis and positive reinforcement to affect change. I've never seen anyone defy the laws of nature, so I assume the supernatural type of magic that most people are obsessed with does not exist.

what do you mean by "real"? if you are trying to ask if anyone has met a hollywood type witch that says some incantation and makes creatures appear (like on BTVS) then no. there is no such thing. Now if you are talking about someone that practices witchcraft as a form of connecting and communicating to their Gods. Then yes, I am one, My mother is one, and a large number of friends both in life and on the internet are also. We aren't very distinguishable from other people except that maybe we dont force our beliefs down your throat like some other people and we tend to be open-minded about things. Most dont wear pointy hats, most dont wear All black all the time, and we dont cast spells on people to harm them or make them "unattractive to other women" lol. I find that one specifically humerous. He just wanted a reason to brag.
Added: Oh and btw yes there are males that follow the Wiccan path as well.

Before ? Before "meeting" you?
I have met many real Witches, both in cyberspace and in the flesh. Some have called themselves Witches, many do not.
Of the variety usually referred to in Mythology & Folklore, only one (if you do not include characters in stories, but real people). She was an older woman who lived near the edge of town (I was about 12 years old at the time). She even wore the pointed hat and had warts, He backyard was littered with rocks and bones and herbs and other plants.
Most of the real Witches that I have met call themselves Wiccian or Shamen or Neo-pagan or Pagan. A few have traced back several generations (Iberian). Some are loners, others met in groups (not always called a coven).
Most are very beautiful people.

Yes, I have met plenty of "real witches", none of them could do anything spectacular though. Some people call me a witche because I was born on Halloween, and for other reasons not very nice :P Ah well. Take care.

I AM a witch, or to give myself the correct term - pagan. I practise the knowledge passed down to me from my mother, herbcraft and i mainly follow egyptian dieties.
It really isn't very weird to find pagans in the world, there are far more than follow any mainstream religion. Unfortunately modern government deem it unnecessary to class paganism under the official religions list, so we cannot Handfast without gaining a certificate from the registry office first to say that in the eyes of the government we are married.
What the hell have they got to do with it? Other than making sure they take as much tax from us as possible?
But that's another thread :)

Witches are everywhere. Of course, the particular answer to your question relies on what you qualify as a "real" witch. A practicioner of Witchcraft and or follower of Wicca, or some derivation thereof, would classically and rightly be called a "witch." And based on that definition, I have met thousands of them. I have met Druids too, which are far more rare and mysterious. :-P
As for myself, I am both a Witch AND a Druid. :-)

Yes, I was at a New Age store I was asking this woman who worked there about my "out of body" problem. This woman put her hand on my head, and I instantly had the WORST pressure headache in the world, then when she put her hand down, my head was fine. She said that my aura was huge and she gave me some pointers on how to go out of body easier. It was the weirdest experience I have ever had, and that is actually want got me into the occult...
She never said she was a witch, but, I like to believe she was!!!

I haven't met one that I know of. I'd like to be one. I feel it. I recognize that what I believe myself to be cannot be expressed with a mainstream label.
Many things fell into place when I saw a book my daughter borrowed from the library. I keep a BOS and follow my instincts, read, meditate, appreciate, imagine, love earth and sky, accept the results of my choices and try to always spread the light of the Goddess beyond my heart.
