Me and my husband are going to Jamaica the last part of November and returning December 4th, 2007. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as the weather during this time? I had read it should be great. Also, what is the best way to travel from point to point? We will be staying on the North side on Montego Bay and was interested in going to Dunn's River Falls and that is a distance away from where we will be staying ( our hotel is only about 15-20 minutes from the airport) and was wondering what would be the best way to get there and how much it might cost for the travel? Also, just any suggestions on what to do or where to go and what to look out for as far as safety? What about the cheapest way to call the US from Jamaica? We are staying 5 nights for our anniversary and looking forward to it so much but we are still nervous, first time flying for my husband and first time for both of us out of the US. Thanks!

Weather in that part of the globe is almost always great. It is near the equator so it is always warm and sunny. Your resort should offer trips to Dunns. Most of them offer sponsored trips which will go in airport type shuttles. If not they will certainly have a list of cab drivers they recommend. This will insure you safety.

One interesting thing about your flight is that you will probably overfly Cuba. But relax about the entire trip. Jamaica loves tourists. Stay with resort sponsored trips and you will be safe. If you want to see some other things to do in your area go to TripAdvisor.com and you can view attractions. If you like action adventure types of things to do look up Chukka Cove on the internet. They offer cycling, atv tours, horse back riding, canopy tours (zip line through the treetops) and more. We did the canopy tour last summer and it was COOL.

Hope you have a lovely time

I haven't been for almost 10yrs even though I have real close friends out there.

You can get around by taxi but you will be charged a premium for "chartering" one. However you to get the added safety of them providing a return trip - last time I went took the bus to the falls on the way back the bus stopped and it wasn't until about 30mins passed that we realised that the bus had broken down and the driver was long gone... hitch-hiking in a foreign land - go figure

Making friends with a local or someone at the hotel could be advantage as they can recommend places and even offer to be your tour guide - you may have to pay for an extra person but sometimes it worth it... even if its just to give your husband the peace of mind that he will be returning with his wife!!!

It is a beautiful island, a real boast to the female ego the weather should be great its not usually that hot at that time of year although you can leave the coats behind.

Simple common sense will take you a long way no waving of money out in public don't go dressed as Mr T.

If the weather does get a little hot or you feel for the extra breeze try taking the boat over to Port Royal...

Even though you're not cruising, you can get good info about particular places by going to CruiseCritic.com - click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then go to "Ports of Call" and click on Jamaica.

Perhaps your resort has a tour to Dunns River Falls, or there would be taxis, of course - no idea how much that would be. Taxi trips can be an adventure in themselves!!

If you venture outside your resort, be prepared for constant assault by people trying to sell you all kinds of stuff [including illegal stuff, if you get my drift], hair-braiding, etc, etc. You will need to perfect your ability to say "no" politely, over and over again.

I've been to Jamaica three times on cruises. We went to DRF [I didn't climb, just walked alongside and lounged at the bottom - I was the person who volunteered to stay with the kids as they opted out of the climb midway.] It was nice, and I guess you "have" to go see it/climb it....

The most fun thing we did was to tube down the White River east of Ocho - what a blast! But that was on a tour done by the ship.

Another possible resource for info is TripAdvisor.com. It has info on hotels/resorts but also has forums about various destinations.

Have a good time!!
