Tracing the IP of a hacker would be almost next to impossible because they have the ability to make you think their email came from china when it could come from the computer next door.
However, if you're looking to track an IP address. 1st you'd need an IP trace program. http://www.visualware.com/ has one. However, you have to buy it.
Next you'd need to be able to find the IP address of the supposed sender. Enter that IP into the program and you got it nailed. In theory anyway.

if you are using yahoo mail...you can try this one:
open email--->options--->general preferences--->messages--->show all headers--->save
