I just got my first pair of glasses and I am terrified that if I get in a wreck and the sirbag goes off that I am going to have shards of glass in my eyes or worse?

First of all, your glasses probably have plastic lenses. Mine are. I got punched in the eye by a guy and have a photo of lovely oval cut marks where edges of lens were driven into eye socket - lens didn't break (until he stomped on it.)
The last time I had glass lenses was 40 years ago and put a bottle cap from a fermented fruit juice bottle through them and broke glass into my eyelid - by the time the glass got to the eye, the lid was closed.
In the case of air bags, if it goes off, it spreads out as close to instantly as you are likely to encounter, your upper body crashes into it and it immediately collapses. The force is so spread out that it will do nothing to your eyeglasses. Stopping may cause them to keep going. If you have seen the super slow motion images of air bags, watch the head and try to find some real time to see how little time it takes. Your eyes are safe - from air bags if not fists and bottle caps.

i wear metal frame glasses and have been in the passenger side has had the airbag go off. the lenses do not break like you would think. it's not exactly glass. the only thing that happened was the nose cushion piece came off and the metal scraped against my nose. i was bleeding but was very minor. no medical attention needed. you will not die although i believe the metal frames could've gone into my eyes just because it was so easy to get cut by it like i did. stick with plastic frames.

I used to work as an optician in an eye doctor's office. Your glasses I can say with near certainty, are plastic. Glass is much heavier and harder to deal with. Even medicare/medicaid lenses are plastic. Many types of lenses are shatter-resistant as well. I have seen a few people who were in accidents who had their glasses smooshed in a wreck, but it left a black eye, a scratch, nothing at all like shattered glass in your eyes. This is one of those worries you can happily check off your list as "not gonna happen." Don't worry! :)

Most glasses aren't made with glass anymore. If your glasses shatter, they will shatter and stay together because of the protective coating that are now on all glasses designed for exactly that reason. Don't worry! Your eyes will be safe.

You sure worry about nothing. But the bag will probably slam into your face and possibly place a bruise or mark where your glasses are. Why don't you just worry about your driving first?
