That is pretty much what i was thinking, when i was a kid, i never looked up to these 'women', but a glossy magazine was never far away.
Loads of my friends fell in the trap and they have ruined their lives thinking they will have a life like a WAG.

Come on, that's got to be a joke! The general impression that I have picked up of what 'WAGS' are all about (although it's possible of course they've been horribly mis-represented by the media!) is one of girls who have married rich footballers and are living a life of luxury without having to make any effort beyond making sure they look 'good' at all times. Although I'm sure they are not all quite as stupid as they come across, they are anything but suitable role-models for children. They appear to be image, status and money obsessed, their prime activity seems to be spending outrageous amounts of money (earned by their other half) and they haven't necessarily achieved anything with their lives except attract a man, who lets face it is probably more brawn than brains. You don't have to be a genius to kick a football around do you?! Whilst I have made some huge sweeping generalisations in my answer, I stand by the fact that there is absolutely nothing inspiring whatsoever about a woman who has done nothing more clever than marry a rich man! What about all the women in the world who have gone out there and achieved on their own merit, making a huge difference to the world? If the government feel that young girls of today are inspired by 'WAGS', perhaps they should be trying to teach them that there is in fact more to life than looks and money.

I must confess I saw one of these girlies on Wags Boutique - she was silly and quite lazy and hardly what could be called articulate (Michaela) - isn't she an ex-wag now?

I remember being bemused at the time that she was studying law - but to be honest being registered at a Uni doesn't mean you'll get a degree

Could they really only find two examples of Wags with more than a minimum level of education?

Makes you wonder how many GCSE has the person who wrote that article, lol.

In any case we don't know what kind of GCSE's are those, for all we know could be woodwork or religious studies, lol. And also from which universities (if they are universities at all) those degrees are from.

The only good thing those people are is to self-promote themselves, to "leach off" money and fame from their massively overpaid boyfriends or husbands and in many a case being guilty of young girls developing eating disorders.

Did you actually read the article?

"Michael Carrick's partner Lisa Roughead, holds a degree in business while on-off flame of Stewart Downing, Michaela Henderson-Thynne, is studying law"

If these WAG's can inspire people to study at degree level through further education, then surely they are doing better than many other celebrities.

They also pointed out:
"The odds of following in [Victoria Beckam's] footsteps are incredibly thin."

Its a perfectly good example in my opinion.

I think the researcher get free football tickets to conduct their 'studies' and that is what is generating this data.

I ignore most studies; research mostly makes no sense.

I suppose they are a good example in that they passed some exams... not sure their overall lifestyle is relevant to most people though !

I think it's insane...

I think it's inadvertently suggesting that if you're pretty enough (and even THAT's questionable), you'll be okay 'cos you can find a rich celeb to sponge off.

Bloody ridiculous!
