The good news is that because such a small proportion of the computers that are attackable on line are Mac's, very few viruses are written to attack them. The bad news is that is perfectly possible to write a virus attack on a Mac and there are some out there. Virus protection is advisable if you spend time on line browsing and searching sites or do a lot of e-mail.

The Mac OS X does not attract that many virus as per previous Mac OS. Not everything in the computer world (PC or Mac) is consider virus free. Macs have less of a chance of being infected with viruses, but can act as a Windows (PC) virus carrier to your PC user friends via email attachment. In other words, it is good to have some kind of anti-virus protection for yourself (mac user) and to protect the spread to your PC user colleagues.

Of course Apple computers can be attacked by viruses, so, yes, they need virus protection, too. Their construction has nothing to do with it. The fact is that 98% of the viruses and spyware is written for Windows, so Apple's get less than PC's. If you think you can operate a computer today on the internet totally virus free, you need to think again. Apple's aren't immune.

Apple systems don't get attacked as much because there just aren't as many of them so virus coders don't even bother creating mac viruses.

But Mac viruses do exist and getting protection is a good idea.
