Not sure what search engines you are using, but I found quite a few.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_rain
http://www.ec.gc.ca/acidrain/
http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/acidrain/2.html
http://ypte.org.uk/docs/factsheets/env_facts/acid_rain.html
http://ypte.org.uk/docs/factsheets/env_facts/acid_rain.html

All of these answer all three of your questions.

Acid rain is any form of precipitation -- rain,snow,sleet,-- which contain high levels of acid.Precisely, it is precipitation with dilute solutions of two strong acids --sulphuric and nitric. Two air pollutants which acidify the precipitation are sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.
The major sources from which these are derived are automobile industry, electric power plants etc.So, burning of fossible fuels particularly high-sulphur coal and oil should be resricted to reduce the harmful effects of acid rain.
Acid rain will cause direct damage to architectural structures by corroding famous monuments. Most fish species die in ponds and lakes if the pH value of water becomes less than 5 due to acid rain.(The pure rain water should have a pH value of 7).The aerosol of acid rain can cause respiratory disorders in man.

1 st part of your ques is what is acid rain.
well my answer for this is that when pollutants like sulphuric acid and carbon dioxide mix with each other in cloud and then fall on earth as rain is know as acid rain.
2 nd part of your ques is what does acid rain harm do to our environment.
for this let me tell u that if this water is absorbed by root of plant that specific plant would die in within 3- 4 days .and if this falls in large scale on fields then u can measure the loss of the framer from this thought only.secondly if this water is drunken u can can get water borne diease; even if u keep ur finger in this type of water for12hrs u ll get redskin or rashes.
3rd part of ur ques is how do we stop effects of this rain.
well if u wanna stop this type of rain u have to ban plastic and harmful fuels or gas and plant more tress avoid cars or any fuel using vehcles.
thats all i wanna say bout this topic .
best of luck for ur report
