If you receive a rude or nasty e-mail, don't
respond immediately--if at all. Wait until the
next morning so you can cool off and think
clearly as to if a response is even necessary.

If there is nothing constructive to say in a calm
or sternly professional tone, it is probably best
you don't respond.

Many times folks don't realize they are coming
off as terse. No smiles, bad choice of words,
poor grammar and typos all lend to the
impression that the sender didn't care and makes
being perceived as rude much easier.

Always take the high ground and do not respond
in kind to those who cannot communicate with
courtesy. Just hit delete!

I am too intelligent to respond to rudeness or negativety with such. Once a YA person sent a negative email and we ended up corresponding for abut 8 weeks. He was a troubled individual, had been through a lot. I often wonder what became of him. I try to leave a positive imprint no matter where or what I am doing.

I agree with you completly. I have been blasted often for short, to the point answers...I have to keep in mind that the written word does not have inflection in it, so readers may not know the full intent. I probably will not change my writing style, and I will probably continue to be blasted...that is how it goes. Delete is such an easy button to hit! Love and peace, Goldwing

Thank you. I agree with the waiting part. Sometimes our temper can overrule our common sense.

At least you get email. I still am unable to receive any email from my Yahoo Answers friends even though it says I accept email.

Kindness always pays off. Pass it forward.

No one I know ever sends us rude or nasty or angry e-mails. And I only open mails from people I know. All others get deleted without opening. Life's too short to worry about petty people.

when you hit the spam button, it deletes the e-mail and automatically blocks that address from contacting you again.
I usually forward a copy to myself first, so I will have it in a garbage file if the sender uses another of his/her multiple address to write to me again.

That's good advice, it is often hard to tell what someone meant when you can't see their facial expression or if you don't know them well. I don't e-mail much, then it's only family and friends. I delete any others without even opening them.

I always remember my great grandpa, who was a master carpenter, saying, "measure twice - cut once!"
it's good advice for any area of my life, including responding to ugliness in my fellow human beings.
I HAVE been know to call people on ugly behavior, though. I don't think you can always ignore such stuff.

That is why the gods of computer invented the delete button. Why crawl down to the level of the worm that sent it?
