It's not dumb, just interest.

Actually Radiology is a very complicated field. Not to mention the fact, its a specialization... not just anyone off the street can become a radiologist, you have to have a Radiology degree!
And fyi. Most employers (unless you're specialist) dont care what you get your degree in... only the fact that you got the degree. it shows you know how to learn, and can commit. And just because you have a "dumb degree" doesnt mean you'll end up at mcDonalds. If you get a degree in Law, theres still a chance you'll end up at mcdonalds... it all depends on personal circumstances.

Many people dont research what the job market is like but just take things that they are interested in. I always suggest that they look at their interest and then see how they can make money at it. If they love music, perhaps need to take education courses so that they can teach to feed themseves till they make it big as the next rock star. If they love English, perhaps they need to take classes in journalism so that they can earn a living till their book of poems gets published. A good talk with a college guidance counselor will go a long way in helping them to understand what they can actually do with their degree after graduation. For example, our office receptionist has a BS in Psychology and the department secretary is a history major!

Radiology isn't a dumb major. I know what you are saying though. I have seen some people who major in theater and art (not dumb if you are relocating from the dirty south of Arkansas where I am). I also see students major in Business Administration and they do not have a business bone in their body..they have no idea how to even talk to people, much less how to run a business. I feel you on that question. In my opinion though, radiology isn't a dumb major..those others, yeah, probably.

Thats kind of a stupid way to look at it.. if you didn't know radiology is a growing field right now... and its up to the person on whatever they want to major in, if they are interested in radiology let them do it why would it bother you.

Well, to answer your question to the best of my ability, I am going to relate this question to myself. When I chose Sociology as a major, I did so in order to ensure that my college tenure was something that I enjoyed enduring, not something that I "had" to endure. I enjoyed learning about many different facets of Sociology and people in general. Nowadays, if you do not have a specialty degree(i.e.-Pharmacy, Journalism, etc.) the college degree will get your foot in the door. It also allows you to explore many different career opportunities once you leave college. Imagine if you got a specialty degree and then learned that you did not enjoy your profession after obtaining that degree. Now that is a waste. So to sum up, unless you really know what you want to do after college, a Liberal Arts degree is a great way to go to allow you to really learn and explore your options. Hope this has helped.

Hind sight is absolute. Radiology is a lot better than my degree in music.
