I'm unable to get an appointment with a doctor for 2 weeks, is there anything urgent I need to be doing or should I try to just go to a hospital? It doesn't seem there is much that can happen in this time, but I don't want to not do the right thing. Does the doctor just confirm the pregnancy and give you advice? I have no idea. Thanks.

That's okay usually people don't have their first appointment till 8 weeks so it is fine! Just eat healthy and take a prenatal vitamin daily!

It's normal, some doctors won't even see you until 8-12wks. At this point if something is going to go wrong there really is nothing you or anyone else can do to stop it. There isn't much you can do at this point to cause anything to go wrong either. Your baby is very well protected and if anything happens it's most likely due to developmental problems and nothing you did wrong, it just happens.

Nothing really changes during your first trimester. If your doctor did not order you prenatal vitamins head to the store and get some over the counter ones to start taking.

Even though you don't have an appointment for 2wks you can always call with questions. You can usually get a nurse on the phone and if they can't answer your questions they will likely call you back after talking with your doctor.

Call your doctor right away if you have bad cramping with bleeding or any bleeding at all with or without cramping. Only take tylenol, benedryl, tums, and sudafed unless your doctor has approved other meds for you.

Congrats and good luck!

Usually a doctor won't see you until you are at least 8 weeks along. There is nothing wrong and you don't need to go to a hospital. When you go they will usually do an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. That's where you get to see the "baby". It doesn't look much like one yet at that stage. It looks more like a peanut and about the size of one. It's really cool though. That's when most women are like "This is actually real." Sometimes you are in denial about being pregnant (even though you know you are) until you see the sono. Good luck and Congratulations!!

An OB doesn't need to see you before 8-10 weeks, since that's when they'll do an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. Anything sooner than that is too soon unless there appears to be an emergency or your pregnancy seems to be having problems. Just start taking OTC prenatal vitamins and go about your day.

My conception date was july 10th and my first drs appointment was September 15th (-ish?). That is like 8 or 9 weeks along. I am counting. You will be just fine.

Start your prenatals and stop drinking caffine. Start eating healthy and get yourself a baby book (what to expect when you are expecting is great!)

The only reason you would need to go to the hospital is if there is bleeding and cramping. That could be signs of a miscarriage.

Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy!!

The first visit will be confirmation of pregnancy and filling out a lot of paperwork. You may or may not get an ultrasound and then you will get your next appointment where blood is drawn. I'd say take it easy and relax. Stressing out is not good for you or your baby. Just take the next two weeks in stride because you still have a long way to go. Congrats and Good Luck!!

A regular MD will just confirm the pregnancy. When you go the OB/GYN they will do a pelvic exam, pap smear, urine test, and blood work, some even do an early ultrasound. Don't worry about not being able to see the OB/GYN yet. Many will not even see you until your 8 weeks along anyway. Conratualtions on your pregnancy. I'm sure you will be great mom, if your this concerned already. : )

i didnt go for my first appointment until i was almost 12 weeks along...but seriously there is nothing that you can do but eat well, rest when you can and generally take care of yourself in the meantime...

if this pregnancy was my first i would have freaked out not being able to see a doctor right away, but with baby number two you are more relaxed...

i do find it somewhat disturbing that in the US it took me so long to see a doctor. I moved from Australia late last year and have found the standard of medical care in this country to be lacking to say the least...and that you have to pay for it with insurance that is overpriced is totally ridiculous...

good luck with your new baby...

Most doctors don't want to see you until you are closer to 2 months pregnant. Then you get a nurse consult and then have an appointment with the doctor. They usually give you a pap smear and a health check up. Just take your prenatals, eat healthy food and drink water.

Unless you are bleeding or in a lot of constant and horrible pain, no. Two weeks is not a really long time if you feel good.

They will start by doing a baseline physical and intake. They have you go for bloodwork (this checks for things like Rubella immunization, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and other things which may be complications during your pregnancy. They weigh you and measure your belly. They ask about your history, including whether you drink or use street drugs.

When i found out i was pregnant, he didn't confirm it with a test because the shop bought ones are really accurate. But, he did take down all mine and my other half's details and register us with the midwifery team.
At this stage, you don't need to worry about anything.
Good luck and congratulations!!

Oh, and Just be normal, but perhaps start eating a bit healthier and cutting back on the crappy stuff you may be eating/drinking (especially coffee and alcohol). Also, try to start going swimming as gentle exercise is good for firming up muscles, but not turning you into Arnie or anything. Ans start using body lotion areound and on your belly - it nourishes your skin and can reduce stretch marks.
