What about working out? Is there a limit to how much I can work out before it starts affecting the baby's food? Can I do advanced taebo or is that too extreme?

If I CAN do advanced taebo, is it too soon to start? ( i gave birth 12 days ago)

Appreciate responses from mothers in similar position.

I am about 50 pounds overweight.

yeah it is kinda soon. the reason i sound so eager to start is because this is my 2nd child. After my first i gained a lot of weight because of stress. I feel that i want to start early getting myself into an healthy routine sooner rather than later before i start gaining weight again , and have even more weight to lose. I dont find weight loss easy - so i need to be a little obsessive about it, otherwise i wont be succesful.

Hey TowninMN, i have been about 50-60 pounds overweight for some time (about 2 years), but I have always been able to do the advanced Taebo workout! I am fat but relatively fit - have always been a heavy girl (although not this heavy!!) but have always been active, a regular gym member and enjoyed working out.

i should add that i am 6 ft tall, so 50-60 pounds excess weight is probably not as demobilising as it would be for someone shorter.

I so appreciate where you are coming from. It is not easy when our bodies deflate and every one is coming around to see our beautiful new babies when we feel that we are at our worst. No one else is viewing you the way you see yourself, please remember this if nothing else.

I would not begin a hard core exercise program just yet. You can go walking and there are other low key things you can do, just don't over do it.

Remember that if you are eating healthy and making every calorie count than you will peel much of the weight off with breast feeding (500 calories a day). You do not want to interfere with your milk production and going overboard will do this. I doubt that you are sleeping much at this point and it doesn't take much to overexert a tired body.

Enjoy this time as it will pass by before you know it. Congratulations on your precious new baby!

You will lose weight through breastfeeding. Breastfeeding really burns up calories.

I was a UK size 12-14 before I had my son. Now after breastfeeding him for 11 months I am a UK size 6-8.

Please don't worry about dieting. You need to keep your strength up to breastfeed. Just enjoy breastfeeding your baby and being a new mum. Congrats!

I would say wait until your first visit with your doctor. When you get the okay, you can slowly ease into a work out routine. If you are 50 lbs overweight, you WILL NOT be able to do tae bo advanced. I love Tae Bo and think doing the advanced will literally make you pass out. I gave birth a week ago and know what you mean when you want your old body back. However, for your health's sake, wait it out. You'll lose weight naturally by breastfeeding, so just take this time to enjoy that bond with your baby.

You can work out as soon as your doctor says its safe for you. You may want to nurse before working out, though, I used to work in a gym and the moms there said that their babies didn't seem to like the milk as much right after a workout. Don't know why, but it won't hurt the baby either way. Bark is right about dieting, the baby WILL get what it needs, but if you don't eat enough, especially calcium, the baby will take it from your body. Meaning, if you don't get enough calcium, for example, the baby takes it from your bones. Also, you need to make sure you eat enough to keep your strength up, or the milk supply will suffer.

a pair of idead: Are you so engorged that he's having worry latching and staying latched. Is his mouth hurting him - trauma in the time of transport, thrush Do you have a solid permit down? Does your milk pour out? Edit - a permit down is while the milk is ejected from the nipple. The solid permit down could nicely be a clarification for his on/off habit. while your milk is dripping out that rapid it coule make him experience like he is going to choke. attempt to hold the newborn able the place he's sitting up greater and you're laying returned some - like a changed soccer - this could help him to be have greater administration over the milk

Starving is not a good way to loose weight.
Proper nutrition will leave you full and is good
for you and your baby. Exercise is always good.

That being said. If you dieted by not eating much
it will have little effect on your baby's health.
Scientific studies have shown even in third world
countries, mothers with very poor nutrition and low
food consumption can provide enough food for their
babies. One of those odd facts of nature.

It's ok to want to lose the weight, but I'm not sure its time yet. I don't think you're supposed to engage in any extreme physical activity until your 6-week follow up. But I think walking and drinking plenty of water would be beneficial for you and your milk supply. Your doctor should be able to better tell you what kinds of exercise you are allowed to do safely at this time.

Wooah calm down your body has been through a traumatic experience giving birth. Give yourself time to settle down. I went back to light excercise 3 months after birth then to the gym at 6 months with all of mine. I was back to pre baby weight by 9 months after birth. Your hormones, muscles etc are worn out you need to give it time. You will do yourself serious damage if your not careful. Dont forget your midwife advises you not to have sex until after 6 weeks so strenuous excercise is out of question!! Be careful and good luck.

My wife had put a load of weight on during pregnancy. She was told to eat a healthy diet (loads of green veg like broccoli) and to breast feed for as long as possible (this helps contract the womb back to it's normal size). After 6 months she was back to her pre pregnancy weight.
